Errol Flynn, le navigateur.(Robin des mers): youtu.be/jRotZ9k6qHw…

Though not an “Errol Flynn picture” per se, Pirate Party on Catalina was a very notable Technicolor (short) film and does of course feature Errol & Lili in a fun cameo role.
PIRATE PARTY ON CATALINA ISLAND (1936): youtu.be/czIGtYPpKrA…
I’ve seen RH on the big screen several times and the colors and details of the costumes are so vivid it’s remarkable. You don’t get that kind feeling on a small screen though you can tell it’s there if you could see it all writ as large as it should be across the screen.
Thanks, David! I have to see this on the big screen!!

It’s a good question but I’ll have to go with Robin Hood, followed by Dodge City then Don Juan.(or is it Don Juan and then Dodge City?) What was so great about the early color films was that they were very careful how they used it. The colors made statements. Dodge City was gorgeous. Westerns now are so dark and shadowy. I finally watched Johnny Depp’s “The Lone Ranger” and, while impressed with the spectacle, I was surprised by the amount of shadows obscuring actor’s faces. Dive Bomber was great looking but not a great film. I wonder how William Tell looked.
I’m with you, zacal. Robin Hood first, then either Don City or Dodge Juan (or is it Don Juan and Dodge City?)
I think Don Juan lends itself more to the spectacle of Technicolor, but, because of Robin Hood, et al, wasn’t as pioneering as Dodge City, in that Westerns weren’t at all something people expected in Technicolor. (At least not to my knowledge.) It was so new and fresh to see Dodge City. I like it more than dark, brooding, and moody Westerns. Besides, I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of Big Boy Guinn and his 5th Kansas Infantry.
My vote would go to Elizabeth & Essex. The costumes are so beautiful in that one,and it perfectly shows off how stunningly handsome Errol was too.

You’re so right, Lollie. Flynn’s at a peak and those costumes are sensational. We must remember, however, that standing next to Queen Bette gave him a distinctly unfair advantage!

Other than Robin Hood, all the other films in question are in serious need of restoration. They are all three strip color film and it is very expensive to do. Some scenes look like a 3d film without the glasses because the 3 strips are not lined up correctly. Correct me if I am wrong but they spent a 1/4 of a million on TAORH to get it Blu Ray ready. For the historical record Dive Bomber is a real treasure since I cant recall a film that show so many vintage planes like that in new condition and it glorious color.
Only a quarter of a million, twinarchers? … They should get stared on the others ASAP!!!
Very well received it was!

Though there were some dramatic license issues.

I am sure on the money spent but that amount sticks in my memory. It was along time ago now that I read about it. As a side note on the review posted I think the reason TAORH is not as sharp as GWTW is because of the way it was filmed. Maybe to give it a fantasy look/
We should take a poll as to which film should be restored next, (if that would ever happen).
Excellent points and idea, tw.
