The Quest for an Oscar Lee Price Lugosi Karloff by James Turiello

22 May

I’d like to pass on info about James Turiello’s book that all the fans of Flynn and the great film stars of his era will appreciate! He is the author of Errol Flynn: The Quest for an Oscar and Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar, as well.

Here is his Amazon bio:

James Turiello grew up in the uppermost part of Manhattan known as Washington Heights. A gifted athlete who played baseball, football, basketball, street hockey, bowling and after leaving The Heights, played Jai-Alai in Connecticut. As a young boy he sang at the famous St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

He published his weekly college and pro football handicapping newsletter, Lock-Rating, for over 20 years. Then spent 30 years on the radio as “The Voice”, a sports handicapper.

In 2012 James’ first book was published, Errol Flynn: The Quest for an Oscar. The concept of the book was to get Errol Flynn recognized for his great body of work in the movies. The book was well received and James decided to write similar volumes honoring the likes of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. In March 2022 the latest book was released, Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar.

James is very creative. In his spare time he loves to create dioramas of famous movie and TV scenes, for example the toll booth scene in The Godfather, the Jaws boat, including the barrels on the boat and a bucket of chum. He has created dioramas of The Sopranos, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Roswell’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind and many more. One of his other hobbies is to travel to islands in the Caribbean.

James has some unique peculiarities, he was born as one of a surviving twin, similarly to Elvis. He also resembles Elvis closely. Buster Crabbe was a close friend of his mother’s and taught him how to swim at Palisades Amusement Park in New Jersey.

Thanks so much James for this!
