I wonder about the socks. too. They would keep his feet from getting scratched up, or dirt or other unpleasant things getting under his bare feet. I notice nobody in Hawaii wears socks with sandals but short socks do feel comfortable in them. I usually wear don’t wear shoes or sandals in the house here but often wear just short socks to pad around in. Believe it or not a pair of ankle type socks keep your feet warm in the evenings here when it can really cool down. Most evenings the doors and windows are all open until late at night to let in the trade winds.
That would explain it, David – thanks. Do you think it’s a “real” candid or more of a publicity photo? I would opt for the latter… except that they forgot to remove the beer bottle then… :-)
Well, remember, he is supposed to be playing a drunk in the film. I think this was a still that was shot among many others by the movie’s still photographer which is a job that his daughter Rory Flynn has done on many films since she is a professional photographer.
I love this photo of Errol that you posted David.
Thanks, Mary Ann!
Funny he should wear socks… and did you notice the beer bottle?

Ok, David, thanks for clarifying!
He sure does not look hot like John Huston said they were during the shoot.. I guess we should say
“cool like Flynn”
I think almost everybody on the shoot got sick except Flynn who was used to this kind of heat !
I think it was the cats that saved him.
