ERROL FLYNN IN MALLORCA

01 Jun

Hi friends,

As You Know, Errol  first time visit Mallorca about 1950 and he live there from 1955 to 1959 aprox.Errrol spend one Month in the Hotel Bon Sol Located in Illetas (Mallorca).Surprised by the beautiful place rent a house in Illetas but he spend more time living in Zaca at the Yatch club of Palma de Mallorca.

I attach some interesting pics of Errol and places where Erroll was.As you can see, pics of Hotel Bon Sol Today and Erroll on the terrace Hotel on 50´s, Erroll with “corse” due (I think) a muscle pain, Errol and Patrice in a hunting day at Son Serra de Marina (Mallorca).

On 50´s times, Plaza Gomila in Palma de Mallorca was the nicest atmosphere place where the people of Mallorca went to enjoy the night.Restaurants, Clubs, Bars to drink, etc.But today Plaza Gomila is a degradated place….

I attach some pics of Plaza Gomila where Errol enjoy in the Restaurant “El Patio” (Today disappeared), and the famous coktail Bar Joey´s where Errol and other Hollywod actors as Ava Gadner went to enjoy with friends. You can see the Joey´s today (closed and degradated building)

Crowe's Robin Hood Reviews coming in…

22 May

These are some links to reviews of the new Ridley Scott Robin Hood sent to me by my long time pen pal Suzy…

By now everyone knows that Ridley Scott's Robin Hood isn't very good. First the French learned it, at Cannes, and then the rest of the world learned it, through the usual non-Cannes channels. With many bad movies, it's hard to determine where, exactly, things went wrong. Plenty of so-so scripts are …

In theaters ROBIN HOOD, directed by Ridley Scott, written by Brian Helgeland, 131 minutes, rated PG-13. The best thing that can be said about the new Ridley Scott movie, “Robin Hood,” is …

Bangor Daily NewsMay 20 3:49 PM

The concept of “rob from the rich and give to the poor” has been a popular one in America in times of economic trouble. One would think reinventing the character who first embodied that ideal would be a surefire way to energize the masses, but if the new rendition of “Robin Hood” is any indication, it just isn’t worth the effort.

A Question of Accent

18 May

Ok, this might be going to be a bit dry, but have you ever thought about why Lili pronounced “Flynn” as “Fleen”? As 1/4 of a linguist, I became interested in this question, and here's what I found out.

Even though I never heard Lili speak, I believe she did not say “Fleen” directly. You probably know that in your English language, you have got two i-sounds: a short one as used for “Flynn”, written something like this in phonetics: [ı], and a long one, like in “seen”, represented as [i:].

Now in the French language, there is nothing like this – the poor French have only one single i-sound, represented as [i]. Its length is something in the middle of the two English sounds, but supposedly, for English-American ears, it sounds like a long [i:]. That's why Errol probably chose the spelling of “Fleen” to represent Lili's accent.
