This is another type Errol wore and apparently favored, Maria – a long-hair Beaver Fur Western hat (aka Frontier Felt):

Thanks Tim – the poster looked familiar -but I think this one is another version. – Errol always wore his hats slanted the opposite way. I hope Errol copyrighted his face.

I was talking about hats at work and wish they would make a real comeback other than baseball caps. One person suggested that maybe the high backrests in cars killed the hat business which I don’t think that was it. I am old enough to remember when everyone wore hats at least as late as the 60’s.

Dear Twinarchers, Have you ever watched Mad Men?
We were also talking at work and remembered when you NEVER wore slacks -and always wore a hat. My own mother always wore high heels to work. I wonder what happened to all the great clothes that Errol had!

I believe JFK gave the penultimate coup de gras to the already in declne hat business, followed by the Fab Four forever ending the Fedora – Elvis even earlier, ending for many that Sinatra hat look. Some say GI’s of
WW II and Korea helped the decline along because hats reminded them of military headwear and regimentation. And then there were cars, which lessened the need and desire for such hats.

When did Errol start to shun hats? Pretty early, I think – before Elvis, JFK and The Beatles!!!

Maybe you could start a tab dedicated to Errol in hats, Maria! That would be a fun one for sure!! Lots of great photos of him we could all help you get in one thread, starting with that terrific one of him at age four, maybe some even earlier!

No I never watched Mad Men. The dress code today way down from what it was. Now its come as you are and you can go to an eatery and spend a hundred bucks or more and a meal for two and wear shorts. I miss dressing up.
