I also remember an interview he did years before that doc in which he mentioned “the great Errol Flynn”. He was a fan.

I recommend to all interested one of Burt’s final appearances~ The Last Movie Star (2017).

It is both a subtle and yet powerfully touching performance,

and reminds me of still another FINE acting swan song some 60 years earlier: the fellow in the role of “Mike Campbell” in The Sun Also Rises.

Burt Reynolds honored Errol Flynn’s memory in the film W.W. and The Dixie Dancekings (1975). The film was set in 1957 and Reynold’s character W.W. goes to the drive-in to see the latest film starring Errol Flynn. Since Twentieth Century Fox produced this movie they used a color clip of Errol from The Sun Also Rises. Sadly Burt Reynolds died before shooting his scenes in the currently filming Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Ralph Schiller

Thanks, Ralph! I forgot all about this film, which seems to be the beginning of Burt’s car chase movies. I find it fascinating that Art Carney preceded Jackie Gleason in the role of the person pursuing Reynolds throughout the movie.

Burt’s humorous scene “with” Flynn can be seen in the below-link, from about 5:00 to 6:30. I’m sure Burt would have preferred an earlier film of Errol’s.
