The Big Boodle! In Hell Hot Havana!

14 Aug

[embedyt] www.youtube.com…

1957 Crime drama noir style film starring Errol Flynn, Pedro Armendáriz, Rossana Rory, and Gia Scala, set and filmed on location in Cuba. Once Errol’s grittier performances, at times a bit disjointed, in his reactions, is nonetheless fascinating for its locale. Flynn spent a lot of time in Cuba and some of it is controversial. Here are a few shots towards the ending of the film filmed on the famous El Morro Castle. And a shot of this location as it today, in 2018.

The shots above were made at this location and below we see the same location as it looks today in 2018.

You are welcome, Gentleman Tim! I do love this movie for many reasons, chief among them the locales … The restaurants by water with El Morro in the background are sadly no more!

Ahoy Gentleman Tim~

Glad to see you back if only in passing…

Back in ANOTHER day, there was an EQUALLY prolific poster, and one of his particular focuses was REVIEWS.

As it is hard to get ahold of him of late, I will take the liberty of posting one of his MANY efforts, from 2005, and hope you find it as ILLUMINATING as it was back when…

Here’s a very interesting scene, with some very scrappy script.

We have some odd facial expressions from Errol during this scene, and I cannot put my finger on why. I do not know what he is reacting to, exactly. They are presenting themselves to whoever might see them together but I cannot understand some of his reactions … the rest of the film is fine, no quirks, like this!

Is it possible this has shown on TCM? I feel like I may have seen it, but need to again. I mean…Flynn in a noir

It has been shown many times on US television over the years, usually late at night or on TCM. You can sometimes buy a copy from eBay or other vintage film sites around the internet.

Thank-You Karl for putting an old movie review of “The Big Boodle” that I had posted at the old Zaca website! The film is available on DVD from MGM-UA via Amazon.com…
Thanks to david for sharing this under-rated gem with everyone here. Ralph Schiller
