We are up and running again and things are looking extremely well!
There are still many things in the fine tuning stage and David is very able and willing on the job!
Thanks to David with his Speedy Gonzales work – we are able to communicate with each other, we can post, we can comment and it is easy to navigate.
In short – we are setting sails again for destinations unknown for our adventure to find our man’s ‘Footsteps in the Dark’ cyberspace!
David we owe you our deepest appreciation and gratitude for moving us with such an ease, swiftness and the fine provision of a good roof over our heads.

Thank you very much! Yes, a lot of fine tuning and tweaking lay ahead. WordPress blogs work in mysterious ways! But I am getting my head wrapped around some of it, slowly – these blank avatars, for instance – I ticked a box to remove them but they are still here! Another thing I noticed was that only one post was supposed to be moderated before your are free to post – and this is has not been consistent so far… but it will all shake out. There is also a plugin that allows notices to be sent to whomever would like to receive notices about comments or posts – and this is not an automatic choice for users, as far as I can tell – I cannot see the blog exactly the way Authors or Subscribers do at this point! So lots of fiddling around is still needed to get a good handle on things!
Update: I now have a testing account that allows me to see what the Author experience is like on the blog! I recall doing this at the very beginning of the Blog in our other location – and it has proven very helpful. I am now able to look at the blog the way most people do, as well as the more complicated Admin View! I have also been able to shut off the avatar function. The interesting (and sometimes frustrating thing) is that WordPress can be tweaked by the careful use of plugins which give it the kind of functionality that we want while avoiding behaviors we want excluded. Finding the right plugin out of many thousands of plugins with properties you are looking for is difficult – in a case today, 1/26/12, I found a snippet of php code that when placed in the right section of the Themes folder, yielded a restriction I was looking for – I have some experience with html and a minor bit of php coding ability so I was very pleased with myself when it worked!

There is something odd about the comment posting field now? A green tick with ABC above and a grey sign? And it opens a new window?
This was a plugin I was experimenting with to allow you to edit your comments! However, it was not functioning correctly, so I deleted it. The ABC thing was a spelling checker and the Box was supposed to open a new comment editor page. After you posted the comment there was an edit button under it to make changes and the box opened to do the editing. There was a fatal error caused by a missed Access in the php file that I couldn’t correct – when you refresh the page or clear your cache, it will not be there! I am searching for alternatives but none so far are working of us…
I see, thanks! In fact, since I am able to edit all comments that were made to my own posts, every author should be able to do so and if I request that he or she delete or edit a comment, this would be possible…
I would like to see edits for spelling and not content – if we go through all of our posts and edit out things we don’t like it will not be the lively blog it was and will be less interesting or enlightening to read!
I was basically aiming at the re-attribution of the original comments. On another note, I tried to write a new post and it is shown a “published” in the back end, but I can’t see it here? What did I do wrong?

Re: the EDIT function for author’s comments!
I found – if you go to the Dashboard and scroll to COMMENTS then click into comments all posts are listed and when you hoover over the individual entries on the bottom of SOME of the comments appears a line saying the following: in orange – Unapproved, in blue – Reply/ Quick Edit/ Edit/ History/ Spam/ – in red Spam/ Trash/ – but you only see it if you hoover over it!
QUESTION is – would that be good to have? Couldn’t there be tampering with posts as I just did with your entry?
Furthermore, it does NOT show on all entries! Right now it shows on your entries, on David’s and on Volker’s!
BUT on the good things of it is that on this EDIT screen there is also the tab “CODE” we would need to enter pictures into comments.
So maybe we should have it after all and have faith that nobody will tamper with our posts!

David answered this my comment before, he said he was experimenting and it is now all as it is before.
As for the edit option of comments, I have no idea, but I know that I can edit comments which were made to my posts, i.e. I can re-attribute the names of the commentators RIGHT HERE ON THAT PAGE, not in, as I call it, the “backend” where you saw the other options.
Inga, the red SINGLE EDIT buttons are ONLY on this page – “Thank you David” – under each comment and I could edit each and everyone of those entries as I did yours. Do you see that I added to your post ? I should not be able to do that!
Furthermore, I found what brings on this edit function line I talked to you about in my comment to you and where I added my comment into your post.
This line I speak off, see below, come on – or gets activated – when a SQUARE is IN FRONT of the author’s name.
Have a look at the Dashboard/ Comments – when you see the square the edit function is activated and you see when you hover over it! If there is no square – there is no option of this feature.
THE SQUARE IN FRONT OF THE AUTHOR’S NAME IS THE CLINCHER and I think in most of those features!
On the same page “Dashboard” you find “Media” where are a lot of the pictures are – maybe all of them – same thing occurs – if it has a square in front – the picture has an edit function. Please have look!

Yes, in a way, as it leaves way for manipulation.
I have today removed the ability of Authors to edit all comments left by others on their posts. You will be able to edit only your own comments.
No REPLY button on your post!

Things will be a bit experimental until I get a handle on what I can and can’t change or tweak but we will all get used to the way things work over time! So if things are a bit confusing, it is because it IS confusing right now! For instance, I was trying to allow comment editing right here on the comment page with a plugin but it has a flaw in it – so I had to remove it. At least, you can edit your own comments via the dashboard!
