Flynntabulous Stetsonman Tim! I have never seen these skiing pics of Errol, I wonder if anybody of our fellow Flynn fans has. You won yourself another Olympic scholar medal.

I don’t know how many Californians troll this site, but I have stopped at the Donner Historical society’s museum a few times on treks over to the Bay Area from N. Nevada.

It is quaint yet packed full of memorabilia and photos that can absorb you for hours. And, their coffee ain’t half bad either.

Located on the historic original Highway 40 which has now become, in most parts, Interstate 80, there is still an un-ruined swath of Old 40 that Errol and pals trekked on – that you too can drive about on and see some incredible scenery, simply by detouring off 80 and following signs. Takes you through the “old part” of Donner Summit, where old weekend lodges still sit back in the pines and you swear you feel like you’ve entered a time warp. Definitely worth the detour and time, folks.

Oh drool. You know people looked more…sophisticated in the ski outfits they wore back then – am I alone in that thought? Less flash, more rugged, plain yet striking. Wonderful photo thanks!!!

I enjoyed the article and the photos along with the comments.

The first pic of Errol in his black sweater and light slacks, including the one with Schroll, are probably late December of 1941 at Sugar Bowl in Norden, Calif. By chance, do you have a date?

Flynn was on vacation for a few weeks about that time.

The next shot in the comments has a brief video, Flynn wearing a plaid shirt over a turtleneck. That was taken on March 17, 1940 at the Sugar Bowl on his return from the premiere of Virginia City in Reno. This may have been his first real attempt on skis.

The next pic of Flynn in a plaid shirt over another white shirt with his hands in his hair, was not at the Sugar Bowl. It was on December 14, 1940 at Hyde State Park outside of Santa Fe, N. Mex, during the premiere of Santa Fe Trail.

The last photo, in color with Rita Hayworth, was at the same Hyde State Park function.
