Objective, Baldwin Lake!

Read, see, and listen to the history and fate of Baldwin Lake, where much of Objective, Burma! was filmed:

Objective in Color Errol in Swamp

In his day, as Errol put it in the trailer below, it was “Up the Burmese Creek without a paddle.” Today, no paddle is necessary.

These are great shots! Looks like the original was slightly more ornate. You couldn’t get me to wade into the present day muck!

So this is like asking; “Which came first the chicken ……?” –

Was the so called temple as we see it in the film; overgrown debris, Asian artifacts, etc., originally that way? Or was it as we see it now in the top pic and addional props were used to give the look in the film?

I loved this movie! I think it unfortunate that Errol was held partly accountable for the Operation Burma storyline – I always heard that he was horribly discouraged after the movie came out – Nowadays he would have had a press conference about it. Movies are movies – but I understand how it must feel for the families of those who lost loved ones in the Burma Campaign..and we should all know what really happened during the war.
The controversy reminds me of that over “ARGO” – I watched ARGO -it was a great story -especially the airport scenes where they are trying to get out of Iran. But… it was a MOVIE. Here is a piece of trivia for you – the father of our current Prime Minister was in opposition during the Iranian “Caper” and almost let the cat out of the bag when he questioned (in open question period) why passports were being issued for Iran!
Sometime ago I posted a poem written by an British soldier about the Americans saving Burma – I will try and find that.
