Was Errol really ever Master of this recently-sold-for-$4M Manhattan Beach Manse? Or is this a Suburban Flynnian Myth? Anyone out there know?
“Originally built in 1934 and owned by Errol Flynn, this exquisite home exemplifies how a historic piece can be modernized while brilliantly maintaining the elemental setting of the beach. At 4,200 square feet, this spectacular home has three levels: the ground floor accommodates the living and dining rooms, kitchen and wine area; the mid-level features a billiard room, two bedrooms, and a playroom; and the third level hosts the master suite with a large entertainment deck area with fireplace and panoramic unobstructed ocean views.
A team of experts worked to modernize this home while keeping its history. In an effort to preserve the allure of the 1930?s and the Deco era, materials such as glass and stainless steel were used to magnify the appeal and charm that time period had to offer. No detail was neglected in the creation of this magnificent rejuvenation which epitomizes the charisma of the era in which its style was born.”

Well this makes the second piece of property listed lately as a ‘former EF home’ that has me arching a brow. I grew up in Laguna Beach, south of this town – and just don’t recall ever hearing Flynn lived in MB. Real Estate agents can wax creative methinks at times – perhaps too creative – I’d ask the agent bluntly where they got that info from. I dunno….kind of wondering if “former residences of EF” are going to start sprouting up like Elvis sightings!

Hmm. I wonder if they were investment properties?

Errol did certainly get around town some, Maria. Here’s a link with alleged addresses in or around LA, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood, et al.

Regarding the recently home on Cordell Drive in the Bird Streets above Sunset Boulevard, I do believe there’s good reason to believe Errol bought that for Nora and/or The Eddingtons.

I researched and (re)confirmed the Bird Streets home late last night, Maria. On December 20, 1946 , Errol wired Nora from Cartegena reporting that he had just lost two sails at sea and was soon leaving for Port Au Prince. The address on the Western Union was 9250 Cordell Drive, the very one just sold and previously owned and lived in by Paul Lynde and Moby (separately, that is).

Documentary evidence of Flynn’s Connection to Address exists in the form of a Western Union sent by Errol to Nora on the morning of December 21, 1946, from Cartagena, Columbia. Quoting the Western Union Errol sent to Nora:

You have an excellent point, TZ. Then again, this photo was taken last summer right out front of Errol’s alleged former beach hut on Manhattan Beach. Thank you very much.

Thank you, TZ. Thank you very much.
Here’s Mr. Errol singing a lovely, tender version of “Love Me Tender”
(J.W. being an homage to Jackass Warner, I presume) and a photo of Errol writing “Hound Dog” with Xavier Cougat at The Mocambo – obviously an early influence on Elvis, who, like Our Man Flynn himself, later trained with Mushy Callahan, teamed up with Hal Wallis, AND, inside word on the Bird Streets of Hollywood and beyond, even dated Nora!
