What a Surprise!

16 Nov

Just viewed a clip of the game show The Big Surprise.  I had no idea that Mike Wallace would be the emcee.  Errol was fun to watch.  He was witty and handsome as ever.  And, he got all of the answers and won $30,000.  Does anyone know if there is a clip available of his return visit for $100,000?

This is very scary. Is this the game show where Errol won a lot of money because he could answer questions about the sea, navigation, etc..? I was just thinking about this very show the other day. Talk about ESP. I don't know what to think. This is quite strange. Kevin Kiernan

But it's a good thing, right? We're all thinking about good ole Errol!

Hi Kathleen;
You always come up with incredible information. Now please tell us how one can find and watch that clipping of this Game Show? I would love to watch it even buy a copy of it if one exists.
All the best to you,
Tina

Hi Tina. I found mine by searching with Google (Playhouse 90 Without Incident). I also bought Without Incident and watched that tonight. EF looked great. It was good to see him reunited with Sheb Wooley and Ann Sheridan. Julie London was there along with John Ireland. The seller I bought from had both [Without Incident and Big Surprise]. Ioffer.com…

Hi Kathleen;
Thank you so much for the information that is absolutely great! I also written a comment to you on “Taking a Guess on EF's crusaders”.
By the way, I also applied for membership with The Errol Flynn Society of Tasmania.
Best regards,
Tina

You'll love the certificate–I put mine in a frame. Not sure I can renew every year but I'll see. Let me know what you think when you receive yours!

Hi Kathleen-
Great question! The only answer I've EVER been given on this is through newspaper indexes of the day which reported on his winning appearance of 2/5/57, and then NOTHING beyond that.
Win or lose, it would have been big news the following week, but- NOT if nothing more happened, and apparently that was the case.
(Also, as I view this appearance, he seemed GENUINELY relieved that the money came his way in the first place).
As for a source, TBS is sometimes bundled with other Flynn TV offerings selling on Ebay or, there is always Robert's Hard to Find Videos: www.robertsvideos.com…

Hi Karl. I agree, he must not have made it to $100,000. I thought he seemed nervous or even shy almost the way he kept stepping on Mike Wallace's lines and a little embarassed when the gift of the pony to his daughter came up. I couldn't tell if he delayed his answers on purpose (being an actor) but I've watched the dvd twice now. I loved it when he grabbed Mike and kissed him at the end.
