Errol Flynn: The Illustrated Life Chronology book/volume by Robert Florczak is magnificent!

30 Mar

Yesterday after burning the midnight oil for three days I finished Robert Florczak’s superb and meticulous book “Errol Flynn: The Illustrated Life Chronology”, reading it from cover to cover as  it was impossible to put down.  At 320 large-size pages, with over  800 rare photographs, this is easily the finest, best written book on Flynn, that captures his heart and his very adventurous, restlessly, troubled soul, since Earl Conrad’s masterpiece “Errol Flynn: A Memoir”

For author Florczak this was a Herculean if not impossible task but he rose to the occasion.  Yes, we see Errol Flynn the screen movie star whom we loved on the big screen but also the deeply caring and adoring father to his children.   Unlucky in marriage to three of the world’s most beautiful women,  the readers  will come to admire Errol Flynn the man thanks,to this book.   Robert Florczak, who  acknowledges invaluable help from Flynn scholars Inga Klein and Josef Fegerel, has unearthed an enormous treasure of never before seen new material that will astonish the readers, including Errol Flynn’s lost (except for the first adventure) radio series “The Modern Adventures Of Casanova” and his ‘ghost’ film “Hello God”.

“Errol Flynn: The Illustrated Life Chronology” is both profound and brilliant and makes for unforgettable reading.  One thing is certain, Errol Flynn’s first wife Lili Damita was the most gorgeous star in Hollywood then and now.

Chez Rudi

30 Mar

Dear Flynnstones,

anyone who further wants to follow Madame Claudia`s footsteps tracing Flynn in Majorca, here is the place to go.

A German article recounts Errol`s funny and uncanny days at  Bar Tirol in Via Apuntadores. It sums up their frequent encounters like squeezing the quintessential EF spirit into a shot glass : “He was nice, but he drank a lot.” “Er trank viel, aber er war sehr nett” (mallorcamagazin.com…)

Rotund Rudi, its stocky patron, seems to have been a very giving character. There is talk, that our Hollywood hero once was not able to walk out the door. Revolving doors? The old back injury again??

Let`s just say, for a true sailor there is no dry land.

Enjoy,

PS: The exact year when Es Moli was torn down is given as well as more information on the commemorative plaque.

The Deep Waters Secret

20 Mar

Dear Flynnstones,

this weekend finally saw the release of the latest film from Flashdance director Adrian Lyne “Deep Water“. It features the classical love triangle of a woman, a man and a secret. The story follows, if not entirely, the whodunnit novel from Patricia Highsmith starring stunning new Bond girl Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck, from Good Will Hunting and Flat Man renown.

In the late 1950s Flynn Enterprises announced a project called  “Deep Waters“ starring French actress Corinne Calvet and her Prince Charming husband Jeffrey Stone to be filmed by Flynntimo manager Barry Mahon in the South of France, Spain and Tangiers.

“The story is woven around the hidden treasure lost, when Freddie McEvoy’s yacht went down in a storm. Quite a yarn if truth were told.“ (Hedda Hopper)

The script to the never made movie was auctioned off online on the 15th December 2005.

The buyer is a keeper.

The secret if Errol‘s best man was murdered has been buried deep ever since.

Enjoy,

just a bit I found on line

Robin Hood star Errol Flynn was an exceptional sword dancer. He was as good with a sword as he appeared to be in movies. Flynn performed his own stunts and was called the duelling Fred Astaire. Genene

Guess who Samuel L Jackson admires, but~ guess who he WANTED to…

08 Mar

In an interview on the Sunday Morning Series (with Jane Pauli), March 6, 2022 / 9:47 AM / CBS News

Samuel L. Jackson is a movie star, and he loves his job. “Movie sets are my playground. That’s my happy place,” he said.

“Sunday Morning” contributor Kelefa Sanneh asked, “Is acting easy for you?”
“Yeah,” he laughed. “Feels like it is. It’s fun for me.”

He has made more than 150 films, and is one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. He’s worked closely with Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino, and he’s a familiar presence in the “Star Wars” and Marvel franchises…

“I think movies should be entertaining,” Jackson said. “You know, popcorn movies, I love popcorn movies! Turn your brain off. You don’t have to figure out the plot, you don’t have to worry about who did it, you know? He did it! Now let’s have some fun!”

He admired actors Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte. But he didn’t want to be them.

“I wanted to be Errol Flynn if I was gonna be somebody,” he laughed. “I wanted to be up there sword-fighting and swashbuckling across the screen!”

Mr Fegerl’s journey to Jamaica

06 Mar

Some time back, when I posted the info about Mr Fegerl’s new book, there was a question as to why the pages below were included. Mr Fegerl gave me the permission to publish these pages on the blog. They relate to a private journey he made in Flynn’s footsteps. Hope you’ll enjoy.
