The Mail Bag brought a real treat today, and there was more in store as I opened the subsequent emails from Mr. Errol Reichow. Here is his first email to me:

Have at it. The immortal Walt Disney must have spun in his grave (or cryogenic freezer) when he learned about his beloved studio’s viciously fictional attack on his friend Errol. Miscreant Chuckie Pigham spawned this despicably malicious misdepiction of Flynn. I hope the sick, jealous bastard is burning in hell.
What a shame. If they had made Errol the hero, it could have been an historically great film.

Awarded Oscar for Best Costume Design, Color to Leah Rhodes, Travilla, and Marjorie Best. The costumes are especially beautiful in Technicolor. – Celebrating the Academy Awards. This film was made due to the popularity of Flynn’s recent reissues of ”CAPTAIN BLOOD” (1935) ”THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD” (1938) and ”THE SEA HAWK” (1940) in 1947.

While still in its infancy, long before it became nationally popular, and before even the first known water skiing club was formed (on Lake Washington in Seattle), Errol was expertly skiing off the coast of California.
On one occasion skiing off the beach of Coronado, it’s been said he was ordered to stop by local authorities, who didn’t know what to think about this rarely-seen activity. There are some other great accounts of Errol out waterskiing – such as off of Catalina with David Niven, onto a beach in Jamaica for a celebrity beach party, to work in the Med. But photos proving he skied appear to be very rare. Here’s one though, from what I would say is the late 30s or early 40s, very early for anyone to be waterskiing, nevermind Hollywood’s greatest star.
