Hi all
It is Albera ST Schools 100th centenary .And they are having a large day to celebrate this. We have been sent 2 pics 1 is of the school class and 1 I believe is of the dancing school he attended at the theater Royal. The dancing teachers name is Miss Lola Smith if this helps. Now comes the hard part do any of you recognise Errol in these pics as to help us add to the information we can give the school as Errol was attending Albera St at this time. And as the teacher said he is the most famous person to attend the school . Love Genene.

What great photos those old school ones are.A couple of the boys could kind of look like Errol,but they are too far away for me to say he’s there for sure.

Of the ones that could look like Errol, Lollie, is there any one with girls next to him who look particularly very happy or excited? … If so, that’s the one most likely our man.

I somehow doubt that Errol is in the first picture, unless he is one of the boys who’s faces are somewhat hidden, but there is a possibility that he is in the second picture. If he is in it, I take a wild guess and say he is in the front row, the second child from the right side in. But the ears are maybe not right!
I cut it out from your picture and enlarged it.
What do you think or for that matter anybody else?

Genene, I am a little confused about the Albuera Street Primary School at present as I found this link below where the schoolhouse is converted into apartments. One is able to read above the entrance door “State School”, can you shed some light on this issue in particular what school is what? Albuera Street Primary School and this picture in the link saying “Albuera State School” on Battery Point?. Where there two different schools – Albuera Street Primary School and Albuera Street State School?

On the same issue of confusion I would like to ask you if my post of years ago has any errors?
I posted the following information under “Errol Flynn’s Homes” of the time Errol lived on 296 Davey Street his third home (1916 and 1917) and thought that maybe you could correct this information if there are errors in it.
This is the post I made:
Battery Point Model School …… on Albuera Street 1918 and 1919!
Actually there is some incorrect information around about this school, which is as follows:
Errol actually never went to the Battery Point Model School as the Model School was converted into the “Albuera Street State School”. Two different addresses! The Model School existed in Battery Point from August 1883 to August 1913 it outgrew itself being designed for only 450
students, yet had risen to 922 and the need for a new school building had become obvious, which became the Albuera Street State School and in which Errol was enrolled in February 1918 and stayed to 1919.

1. The Model school existed from 1883 till 1914. as Ila told us and the school records state. The Model school burned down. Errol never went there.
2. The model school was never converted in to Albuera St school as the students all took there desks and carried them to there new school which was the 1st Albuera st school which is the one Errol attended and also the one that is now apartments.
3 across the road is the new Albuera St school which was built in the 1950s I seem to remember 1954.
4 and this is the one that is having the celebrations. and we have been getting stuff together for the teacher for the open day that they are having .
5 If you have Google maps the Model School is 39 Sandy Bay RD . The old school is 23 Albuera St And the new school is 10 Albuera St Battery Point.. So you might be able to look them up.
6. do you have The tasmanian story by Don Norman as this is a great book for this sort of things.
7 Errol’s parents well Theodore was left some money from a relative and they bought 296 Davey St and they were there from 1917 to 1919 which is when he went to Albuera st for a year and after that Lilli Mary went to Paris to have Rosemary and Theodore ended up selling it . The original address for this home was Holbrook Place and was a st were all the toffs lived.Then Errol was put in Friends school as a border. whilst Theodore went to Sydney.

What is the school’s name on 10 Albuera Street?
When I edit my post I just want to put the right names as the two different names “Albuera Street Primary School” and “Albuera Street State School” are confusing to me.
By the way, do you think that the cut out picture I posted could be Errol?

The new school at #10 is primary school and the old one #23 was state school. One apartment in the old school is for sale and the building can be seen in the pics at www.realestate.com…

I found one student in the crowd who, after I cleaned up the image, could possibly be Flynn if–only the ears (and hairline) were being considered. But there’s too much about the face and expression that doesn’t comport with Flynn to be thoroughly convincing. What do you think?:

Yes Albuera Stret School celebrated their centenary this week. Genene and I put a lot of work into the research on Errol for them as well as the teacher involved, Grant. But when it came to the day we did not get notification of the event and therefore missed it. One thing we did find that the info on his schools was not entirely accurate and new information is at hand.
