Dear Santa,

19 Nov

I know I’m starting early this year, Santa.(It’s not even Thanksgiving yet!) But I’ve been asking for this toy for a loooooong time. As you know, Errol Flynn is the greatest action hero of all time. So why haven’t you made him into an ACTION FIGURE?!?(You made George Lazenby into an action figure before Errol Flynn?!?) I ask you every year and every year you ignore me!!! Don’t listen to my mother, I promise I’ve been good!!! I’m waiting. We’re ALL waiting…patiently. – Errol’s Greatest Fans

p.s. If your elves are too busy, then please ask Sideshow Toys to make the figure. Their celebrity likenesses are awesome!!!

Dear zacal:

Thank you for writing early this year, as our staff is very short and we’ll need time to investigate not only whether you’ve been naughty or nice (or both, like Mr. Flynn often was, as I recall), but also your claim that you are Errol’s Greatest Fan – a claim we receive every year from a list of parties from around the globe. We’ll be getting out the list and checking it twice.

Two of our assistant Santas, pictured below, have already began debating your request. As you can see, one approves of the idea, the other is not quite there yet. I’ll have to speak to the one raising his fist, as that’s strictly against our company policy. There’s no pouting or crying in Santadom. One must be good for goodness sake.

I’ll get back to you by the the 24th, zacal. BTW, since Errol was so often accompanied by some of the most beautiful dolls in history, would you like us to work on one of those to? Perhaps a Livvie doll would be apropos?

In the meanwhile, a Merry Thanksgiving, and to all a good night.

Santa

P.S. Mr. Flynn was up this way a couple of times during the Forties. Very fun & interesting fellow indeed.

Dear Santa, I would like an Errol Flynn Action Figure too please! :)

P.S. A life size Errol Flynn was nearly made a couple of years ago when they opened the Madame Tussaudes waxworks in Sydney. Before it opened they ran a poll asking to nominate famous Australians (from Movies,History,Sport Music etc) to be made into waxworks.Errol was one of the top nominees for the Movie section but was unfortunately pipped by Hugh Jackman & Heath Ledger. :(

December tidings, zacal.

Just in case the elves go on a less-than-minimum wage and/or no-working-over-the-holidays strike – precluding them from working up a new Errol action figure for you – you may want to consider getting someone to put this classic under your tree:

Who the hell is Johnny West? Is that supposed to be some sort of wordplay on (or inspiration for) Johnny Quest? IMVHO, they should have just made these figures look like Errol, zacal. There’s no better/more compelling lookin’ Custer than Flynn!

Was the original price $95?? Holy Sitting Bull! That’s some serious scalping!!

Now that you reminded me I do recall the Johnny West menagerie of Western characters, zacal. Thanks. (And, of course, the great Jim West from the Wild, Wild West!) Being a fan of Flynn (and admirer of Olivia!) very early on in my life – and maybe mostly of his phenomenal portrayal of Custer – I even remember seeing the above action figure somewhere along the line. … I recently read Errol’s Preface to Howard Hill’s autobiography where he very humorously talks about his fighting Indians. A great, fun read for all Flynn fans!!
