Later Lil‘

29 Mar

Dear Flynnstones,

in later years Lili Damita became a fixture in the social circles of Palm Beach. Always the diva no ray of sun was to alter her skin of porcelain.

Enjoy,

Hollywood Heinz;

Thank-you for this photograph which proves Lili Damita’s great beauty never faded and that she adored her son Sean.

Thank you Shangheinz for posting that link to the Palm Beach Daily News article about Lili Damita and son Sean Flynn. I had not known about the death of Sean’s friend, Tim Page. Page actually appears as an extra in Sean’s last film, “Five Ashore in Singapore”. It should be noted that while Sean had railed vehemently against his father in a letter found with Lili’s possessions; in the information found in Florczak’s book about Errol, a letter from Sean has Sean asking his father for advice and money to which Errol responded by giving Sean the requested advise and money. The letter to Errol is dated after the letter found among Lili’s possessions. So even though Sean had cursed out his father in a letter to his mother, in a letter to his father he still seeks out advise from his father. It should also be noted that a picture of Sean with Pat Wymore at Errol’s funeral is incorrectly listed as being a picture of Lili and Sean. I seem to recall that Lili did not attend Errol’s funeral. If I am wrong, someone please correct me. Any way I found the article most interesting.-A. R.

Thank you, shangheinz for posting a link to the article. I had not been aware of Tim Page’s passing. (Page went with Sean when he went to Singapore to film his last leading role in “Five Ashore in Singapore”. Page can be seen as an extra in one of the crowd scenes.) Did anyone notice the picture labeled “Sean and Lili arriving at Errol’s funeral.” I’m pretty sure that that is a picture of Pat Wymore and Sean, as I have seen other pictures of Pat and Sean at Errol’s funeral and the female in those pictures looks like the female in this picture. As a matter of fact and some one may correct me, but wasn’t it a fact that none of Errol’s exes were at Errol’s funeral. Any way interesting article and picture of Sean and Lili–A. R.

I agree with ILIKEFLYNN that is actually Patrice Wymore in the picture with Sean.

Holmes Heinz; There was a new biography on the life of the “Mexican Spitfire” Lupe Velez that finally gave the real reason for her suicide. Ms. Velez was with child and Hollywood blamed her shady boyfriend who did not want to marry her. He was not the father of the child. Someone else was, and this person dumped Lupe like a red hot potato. Then she felt she had nothing to live for.

Yes Heinz; The recent book “Lupe Velez: The Life And Career Of Hollywood’s Mexican Spitfire” by Michelle Vogel names the true father of her unborn baby and it was not Harold Maresch. It was her old flame Gary Cooper, who let Harold take the blame for her suicide.
