I will be in the neighborhood? Olivia deHavilland!

09 Sep

Jan van der Vliet shares a note he got from Olivia deHavilland’s secretary back in 2010 when he was going to Paris on a trip and thought: why not write to Olivia and see if he could stop by … knowing his chance were slim to none she would say yes, he wrote a nice letter and received this reply:

Thanks for sharing, Jan!

Wouldn’t it be grand talking to the great Olivia about Errol? Would be the highlight of my life!

Here’s hearing from you, Don Jan.

Congratulations, you’ll always have this letter from Paris.

Emily’s now a full-fledged veterinarian in Colorado, in case you’re ever going West, Jan Man.

Dame de Havilland has been in vogue for many years, of course, but here’s a specific instance of her being in Vogue in the early Sixties, speaking, often “pince-sans-rire” (those French have a word for everything) of her life in Paris. Maybe you can memorize her all her humorous observations of France for if you do ever meet her, Jan!
