Thanks to Tim for finding this hidden gem! Look closely when the stars are on the rear platform of the train car with the crowds cheering and you’ll see ‘Dead End Kid/Bowery Boy’, Huntz Hall. Flynn puts a hand on his shoulder to be sure he gets in the photo and Humphrey Bogart cracks a joke to him. At that point the boys were part of the Warner stable of stars until they played one prank too many on Jack Warner. They moved over to Monogram where they kept craning out the films all the way to 1958! Ralph Schiller

Huntz Hall! One of the Greats,! Thanks for pointing him out, Ralph!

Here he is with his buddy from the Bowery trying his hardest to get Flynn’s girl, Mr. Flynn that is.

P. S. In addition to standing among those immortals on the Dodge City World Premier, he’s also, quite amazingly, standing among those immortals on the cover of Sgt. Pepper. But no lonely heart was he!

Thanks to Tim for sharing this hilarious clip of the under-rated but ever popular Huntz Hall and Leo Gorcey! However someone has corrected me in that the young man in the clip is not Huntz Hall but former boxer and actor “Slapsie” Maxie Rosenbloom! I think if the flashbulb attachment hadn’t gotten in the way of his face we would have seen that it was Maxie! He is listed as being on the tour but Huntz Hall is not! I stand corrected! No problema, Ralph! I’ve been a big fan of the Bowery Boys since I was a kid. It was worth it for me just to see the story of Mr. Flynn and his gorgeous girl at the Flynn Riding Academy. Somehow, I’m sure Errol inspired that little skit!

Here they are taking care of some bloodsucking low-life from the Lower East Side.

The Warner Bros. are not going to wait a year before setting to work on another epochal western picture. Success of Dodge City (it’s breaking records at the Strand in New York) has encouraged to start preparing at once Diary of Santa Fe, film story of the railroad.

In addition to Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, and Bruce Cabot, who were seen in Dodge City, the new picture will feature Buck Jones and Hoot Gibson, foremost western stars from away back. The saddle heroes almost over shadowed the other stars in attention from the public during the recent trek back to Dodge City.
