There is a tulip producer here in Tasmania that has produced a new variety of tulip that is a bright red and is one of the first to bloom in the season. However it has not been named as yet and we have sent in some names including Captain Blood for their consideration. I will actually be at this farm on a tour in another two weeks and will put some pressure on to honour Errol, I am a tour coach driver.
Now is your chance to enter your opinion on the new name, just go to this link www.vdqbulbs.com… and send them an email of your suggestion.

I emailed them this morning, Steve & Genene! I suggested “The Baron” and some others. Hope other people will email them, too!
Hi David;
The tulip is bright red and you say “The Baron” – wow! Is that Errol? The Red Baron? Oh no! The Red Baron was only one man – Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen – German flying ace and German as they come- First World War – somehow named in “Dawn Patrol”, but not Errol!
Please rethink your vote!
“The Baron” was one of Errol's nicknames – do you know who called him by this name?
Hi David;
Of course I know that Errol was the Baron, you joker! There are two stories running around – one says Jack Warner gave him the name – the other says Raoul Walsh! So who was it really. will we ever know?
In regards to my post I think you just misunderstood what I was saying. I meant to make you aware of the “Red Baron” – if by any chance the tulip would receive the name “The Baron” or “Baron”, it could be very easily mistaken for the “Red Baron”, being that the tulip is red.
Maybe not at first because an announcement would be made that Errol is meant, but down the road the association would fade. Where as – if named “Captain Blood” it would always be associated with Errol!
Just my humble opinion.
Take care, Tina!
