This weekend I saw the new movie “Thor”, based on the Marvel Comics superhero and his adventures. I really enjoyed the film, and was surprised to find one of the characters in it (he's a character from the Thor comic books) resembles, in part, Errol. His name is Fandral and he's one of the Warriors Three and friend of Thor, the main hero. He looks like a combination of: Oliver Queen (aka Green Arrow from DC comics who's modeled after Errol and Robin Hood), Cary Elwes from “The Princess Bride” and “Robin Hood Men In Tights”, and a young Errol Flynn! Joshua Dallas is the young actor who plays Fandral.
I found the following on the Wikipedia page for the “Thor” film:
“[Fandral is] a member of the Warriors Three, characterized as an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic…Joshua Dallas said he believed that Fandral 'would like to think of himself a philanderer. He’s a lover, not a fighter'. Dallas also mentioned that Errol Flynn was an inspiration for the character stating, 'He was a big inspiration for the character and for me. I watched a lot of his movies and kind of got that into my bones. I tried to bring out that little bit of Flynn-ness in it. Flynn had a lot of that boyish charm that Fandral’s got all in him'.”
So I thought that was pretty cool. :-) I've attached 2 images: one of Fandral from the Thor comics, and the other of Joshua Dallas as Fandral.

This is quite interesting news and just proofs how inspirational Errol was to a myriad of people and venues of creations weaving him into one aspect or another until this day. He most certainly created an everlasting image of attraction.

I too saw “Thor” and heard about the character, Fandral and saw yet another film of recent vintage to honor Flynn. The other being “Tangled”! I also think Josh Dallas would make a good Flynn or maybe even Sean in a movie.
Talking of inspiration and Errol being talked about in other movies than his own.
Last night I saw a delightful comedy – titled:”BOY MEETS GIRL” (1938) with Pat O'Brian, James Cagney, Ronald Reagan and Ralph Belamy in which Errol is mentioned several times. In the movie Errol is announced by Ronald Regan playing the Hollywood broadcaster that he is the big star in the movie “The White Rajah” and that quite often, very hilarious!
The movie was shown on TCM to honor Director Lloyd Bacon who also directed Errol.
If you can catch this movie or rent it, it is worth while to watch!

Yeah, me too, ilovefandral…part of the appeal of Fandral’s character to me is his Flynn-ness. :-)

I wish Josh Dallas had been able to reprise his role of Fandral in the 2nd THOR film (THOR: The Dark World), but actor Zachary Levi replaced him in the role. Don’t get me wrong — I do like Zach, and he was a good enough Fandral, but I still prefer Josh in the role. :-)
It all works out, since Zachary Levi voiced Flynn Rider in _Tangled_, and thus can count two Flynn-inspired roles in his body of work.
