Tell lost and found

12 May

Dear Flynnstones,

when Errol ran out of money for his ambitious apple shot „The Story of William Tell“, an angry albergo (hotel) owner of Courmayeur appropriated some of the film material for the unpaid bills.

Tell-escope

72 years on the reels have finally been developed and shed new light on the missing master shot.

Here the Errol Flynn stunt-in Jock Easton rehearses with an unknown Italian starlet.

The scences now reside at Cinecittà for the world to see.

Enjoy,

Hello everybody, I’m a new subscriber to this blog.
I attended the presentation of the project. We were in Rome (Italy), in Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (which is the Italian school for audiovisuals) for the “Festival della Cineteca Nazionale“. Just to clarify some information: the materials were found and restored by the Museo Nazionale del cinema di Torino (The National film museum) and now are conserved in the Turin archive, not Cinecittà. The discussion and, above all, knowing about the existence of these materials was jaw-dropping. Hope this helps!
