I’ll see your early skin, and raise you an early pencil-thin, or pencil-not-so-thin.

Here’s one from the Case of the Curious Moustache, in which Margaret Lindsay shows her disdain for Flynn’s early failed attempt at hair above the lip. From the looks of this photo, she probably preferred Warren Williams’ upper lip grooming over Errol Flynn’s. Errol was speechless (the entire film.)

I tried a pencil thin moustache once, as all Flynnthusiast probably have, Witty Dave, but it needed constant trimming, perfect eyeside at that and a soberness difficult to keep up all the time.

I’ve known several Flynnthusiasts who haven’t, hairheinz. They were all female, however. I attempted one once, on my self-guided Flynn tour of in LA LA Land several years ago. Failed miserably. If you want a good laugh (cringe or cry) you can see it in the below trailer. It was so embarrassing awful that I shaved it (permanently!) In fact, in the second half of the movie, and ever since, I am without it!

Well Gentleman Don, looks to me you were trying to grow a matt not a mous. You were clearly swinging for the bleachers there.

Excellent color commentary, harrycarayheinz. A swing and a miss was that pseudo-pencil flynn, no bout a doubt it. Perhaps the only thing worse would have been if I tried to go Rolliewood.

Dang good thing, handlebarheinz, that Flynn hid in Hawaii dodging Dodge City until Warner agreed to allow his pencil thin. A Wyatt Earp/Rollie Fingers look may have landed his career on Boot Hill, at least briefly, in like Big Guinn.

Fun and well done video, David! Thank you.

Looks to me like Flynn may be in it more than any other of the silver screen pencil thinners, except perhaps the Thin Man himself.

There are quite a few variations I see!

The Con Man

The Musician

Without the “Stache” I would card him at the bar..LOL!
With it Errol looks very mature. My mother is always getting on my case when I grow a goatee or mustache. I look younger without she says.

Perhaps your Mom would approve if you went with Errol’s ultra-light, Footsteps-in-the-Dark, pencil-thin, with a bow-tie, time-rider? Particularly rather than going with what might apoear on its face to be a gauche goatee … or, worse yet, a vain Van Dyke.
