More info on the history of USS Zaca, I wonder why they chose that name. Perhaps it comes from Lake Zaca en California.…

We get these questions in the Mailbag, today:

Does anyone have information on Rick Allord and what was his position with Errol Flynn?

Secondly where can I get the original architectural drawings of the Yacht Zaca.

    Thank you,
    John Grassi

I was reading about and almost posted something about the mysterious Richard “Dick” Allord several weeks ago. He apparently used to run some with Errol in the early Forties – a possible Mulholland partier, an actor with Errol in Northern Pursuit (and other unrelated pursuits!), a three week husband of Marie McDonald, a purported business associate of Errol’s Thomson Productions, and a jewel thief!…

      An anonymous comment reads:

Dick Allord was my cousin through marriage, and Dick was Captain of the Zaca for many years and a friend to Errol

No name of the commenter is available but came to me through the Report Comment system. I would like to contact the person who commented but the Report system does not show me their name …

The Zaca during the Galapagos Islands Templeton Crocker expeditions in 1932. Various sources state that Zaca is:

    the Samoan word for peace,
probably a Chumash Indian word for village, chief, or quiet place,
named after Lake Zaca near Santa Barbara.[img][/img]
