Who is the Legendary Designer Showing Errol Her Sketches?

And What is Her Most Famous Design??

13 Jul 1952 --- Original caption: The Baroness Makes Up. Whims and whiskers are under discussion in this conference between Bud Westmore, (left), Mil Patrick, and Errol Flynn, the star for whom luscious Mil has sketched some beard styles. Her job of makeup designer is an important one on the lot. --- Image by © Bettmann/CORBIS

Nice Photo. I think this film is good enough for a proper Blu Ray. I came late into seeing the film and as I am older I like it.

Was it for a Sculpture? The sketches are all of his face which is why I am thinking this way – I wonder where those sketches are today?

Great observation and question, Maria. I don’t know where they might be today. They were not for a sculpture, but for a movie. A couple of years after this photo was snapped, this mystery woman (and she was a big mystery!) created a historically famous costume (along with that fellow on her right.) She also did some acting, and had a connection to The Hearst Castle.

    She took this photo:

And is the subject of this photo:

P.S. She had a pioneering position at Disney, once worked for Abbott & Costello, appeared in 21 or so motion pictures, and is said to have been an Italian Baroness.

Have been away for quite a while and just noticed this post!
Her name is Millicent Patrick her full name was Mildred Elizabeth Fulvia di Rossi.
I think you are looking for the movie “Creature of the Black Lagoon”

Yes, Tina! Excellent!! It is indeed the mysterious Millicent Patrick, an often wrongly and longly disregarded talent, who’s most famous creation was the Gill-man costume from Creature of the Black Lagoon. As described in studio publicity notices and appearances, She was “The Beauty who created the Beast”.

Byw, the picture you are showing on top I have the following information about it:
“Much of the design came from artist Millicent Patrick. There’s a beautiful photo showing her impressing Errol Flynn with some sketches she drew of him and how good an artist she was.”

In addition, the picture depicts Bud Westmore from the famous Westmore family of Make-Up artists. There also was Perc and Wally Westmore and they have their own Hollywood Star on the walk of fame “The Westmores”
In most movies one sees their names in the credits!
Here is a link of their history starting with George – the father in 1917!…

Thank you for those further details, Tina! … I thought the Westmores were no more, but I see from what you sent, there are still some around. Making up is not easy to do, especially over generations like they have.

P.S. I’d be honored to work on another quiz for you! I have something in mind I’ll try to put up tonight. It should be very literary … literally.
