Shoreham Hotel, where Errol Flynn …

… met Earl Conrad to go over the galley’s of My Wicked, Wicked Ways, and played a trick on Conrad by having Woodsie and some teenage girls draped all over the rooms busily editing pages of the book with pencils! Conrad predictably blew his top while Errol innocently asked What’s wrong, old boy?

Thanks for these Great recon photos, David!! Really gives a better sense of how Errol was living in that pivotal time of his life. Not as grand as the Waldorf Towers over on Park, but more in the heart of City action – and only walking distance or a very short cab ride from of many of his favorite haunts.

Here’s Winchell’s apparently envious account of Errol at the Shoreham. IMO, he goes way too far in crediting Earl Conrad for MWWW. I’m a big admirer of Conrad’s writing, but anyone who’s seen Flynn’s writing knows how incredible he was with words. Conrad was terrific, but, IMO, Errol’s writing and book was much different in style than other things Conrad did. … Good to have Winchell’s account of things, though, including his take on things at the Shoreham.

Errol may have been tired and ready to shed his mortal coil, but, wow, did he go with a bang! Now, he’s immortal!

Errol’s voice & style is manifested loud and clear in MWWW!!!

I think Conrad was able to mimic Errol’s way of speaking from spending so much time with him, and reading everything he’d written. There’s no doubt Flynn communicated a great deal of details from the letters between the two men. I wish someone could produce the steno notes made around the pool of the Titchfield hotel, in Jamaica as Conrad and Errol worked on the book. My friend, writer/editor/tour guide, and tea maker (Zaca Tea) Dennis Mullen was able toi sit at that same spot at the Titchfield ruins which is no easy task. The area is a restricted military property. But Dennis was invited not once but three times!
