A letter to Errol

14 Oct

Dear Errol,

66 years ago you left this earth to roam around the 7 seas forever. A lot has happened since then. One thing didn’t change. There are still people in the world who discover your movies and love them. It happened to me over 5 years ago. I am watching your movies ever since. You are still remembered by a lot of people. Some remember the bad things, but most remember the good things. You are still a hero to many. You can be very proud of Deirdre and Rory. They still visit filmfestivals in your honour. They delight fans and strangers alike with their stories about you, and ofcourse their friendliness. I propose a toast to you, the master of the 7 seas and beyond. The man who still is loved by the people who visit this blog and many others. One day we all join you, but untill then, a toast to the best swashbuckler there ever was.

I hope everybody will join me with this toast to the man who gave us Captain Blood, Robin Hood, George Armstrong Custer and many happy hours in the cinema and at home. Viva Errol Flynn

Mail Bag! Regarding Miss Olivia de Havilland!

29 Apr

Our own Jan van der Vliet in Spain shares with us a letter he received regarding miss Olivia de Havilland … Jan says: I received this letter 12 years ago, after writing to Olivia asking if my wife and I might stop by to say hello while in Pars … not much chance of a positive reply from complete strangers but you never know in life unless you ask! It was a lark and I didn’t really expect any reply … Olivia died on July 25, 2020 at the age of 104. Officially, she was born Olivia Mary de Havilland.

A Flood of Letters

Harrison Carrol

Evening Herald Express

The publication of Errol Flynn’s new book, Beam Ends, has brought a flood of letters from fans who want to make a direct purchase from the star. He has had $350 worth of orders in the last ten days. To supply them, he has to buy copies from the Los Angeles bookstores.

The postage is sometimes more than his royalty, so he actually loses money on these orders.

I will be in the neighborhood? Olivia deHavilland!

09 Sep

Jan van der Vliet shares a note he got from Olivia deHavilland’s secretary back in 2010 when he was going to Paris on a trip and thought: why not write to Olivia and see if he could stop by … knowing his chance were slim to none she would say yes, he wrote a nice letter and received this reply:

Thanks for sharing, Jan!
