Community Quiz Question

17 Jul

Ok, here's what I call a “Community Quiz Question” because I don't have the answer all ready. I intended to get it, but realised that it won't be until maybe in two years or so, that's why I thought it'd be easier to post it as a question for all.

–> How often did Errol get a slap in the face in his movies?

Please enter the answers as follows:

Name of the slapping person, title of movie, reason

Example and part of the solution which you all know:

1. Bette Davis, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, for turning his back on the Queen/insolence

I invite everybody to join in, it may take weeks or months to be complete, but would be great if we managed another trivial topic in a joint effort. Don't forget to number the slaps! So here would be number two:

2. Faye Emerson, Uncertain Glory, for not telling the truth about himself

Hope you enjoy a little! I'll be off for a holiday on Tuesday, let's see what you manage in the meantime.

In one of Errol's movies!

12 Jul

Hi everybody – again I have been MIA for a while and noticed nobody has place a quiz question!?

Here is one for fun:
In one of Errol's movies there was a horse who had a nice name:
1. What was the name of the horse?
2. What was the race of the horse?
3. What was the horse able to do?
4. Who rode the horse – did Errol or another actor ride the horse?
5. What year did this horse have its movie debut?
6. Later this horse received another name – what was this name?
7. Who renamed the horse and why?

Happy quizzing – Saturday is answering time!
First entry with all the correct answers is the winner!

Quiz Question: If I may? Who Am I?

06 Jul

Hey Guys,

I don't normally participate, mainly because my knowledge on Flynn is pretty limited but I do have a question.

Who Am I?

I was born in Boston, Massachussets, the youngest of three brothers; all of whom worked in the movie industry. I made close to 200 films during a very varied career and worked with Errol Flynn.
My middle name is Waldo.

More clues if needed.

best wishes,

Brian.

Well wishes for the Legendary RICK DODD!

25 Jun

In a personal email to me from our own Brian Twist, Bri tells me the new about the legendary Rick Dodd. Brian explains this news so well that I am quoting him here for us all…

“One other thing David – I would appreciate it greatly if you could post
something at the blog about Rick Dodd. I rang Rick today… I usually
ring every 4-5 weeks or so. I was going to go and visit him in the next
couple of weeks or so. He is very ill… and has just had a heart
attack. He sounded very weak on the phone, which broke my heart as he is
so very lively even at his age. He is the most amazing person I have
ever met… so kind… so eager to hear all on Flynn. He lives and
breathes Flynn… but in a very positive way. I passed onto him good
wishes in your name, and Karl’s… Jack’s and Robert Florczak’s… that
really made his day to know that he is thought of among the Flynn
community. Could you please post a blog entry for him and ask for
prayers and wishes. I can’t tell you enough what a great friend he is to
me and how it hurts so much to know that he is not his usual
full-of-life and sprightly self. I know that people at the blog know who
Rick is… and would spare a thought and prayer for him.”

Of course, we all offer Rick our prayers and well wishes for a complete recovery from his heart attack and to let him know how much he is respected in the Flynn community all over the world…

I am certain the first book I ever opened about Errol Flynn after reading My Wicked, Wicked Ways and wanting to learn more had several picture in it from the famous Rick Dodd Collection. This is a common experience among many Flynn fans over the years and I was always excited to see them!

Then to hear what a fine gentleman he is from so many people was an added blessing.

All the best, Rick…

Sean Flynn 70th Birthday!

03 Jun

I just read the post of ILIKEFLYNN and he /she reminded us that Sean's 70 Birthday was on May 31st.
We all forgot to honor Errol's son with an appropriate post!  I for one hold my head in shame, I feel guilty to have forgotten about it.
I like to remedy this situation by posting this remembrance in the name of ILIKEFLYNN and myself, who is unable to place this post him/ herself and who wishes to join us!

It was May 31st 1941 when Sean Leslie Flynn son of Errol Flynn cried out for the first time and grew into a most handsome young man standing 6'3″ tall and equally handsome as his father! He too ventured into a movie carrier and made quite a few movies, but decided that the movie business it not quite his forte.

Tracking back, baby Sean grew into a thoughtful, sensitive, kind and intuitive child and teenager who had to endure the sadness, as any
child would, being separated from his father. Every child wishes to be
part of his parents on a continual basis and in Sean's life it was only conceivable at intervals, yet Errol was with him as often as allowed and humanly possible.  When ever son and
father were together they had great and memorable times. They loved each
other! In our days we call it “Quality Time”, they had that with certainty.
Errol made sure of that, he loved his son ever so dearly.

Needless to say, Sean inherited his father's sense of adventure and the risk taking bravery, which ventured him into a carrier of covering the most treacherous war in Vietnam and Cambodia. He became a war photographer and correspondent for Life Magazine, which ended his life much to early and extremely tragical. To this day his sister Rory tries to find his remains! A heart-wrenching story of a young man who should have lived to tell his story!

I am sure we all wish to remember and commemorate Sean and celebrate the life he lived! Please join ILIKEFLYNN and me with your heartfelt comments to praise Sean's short but ever so worthwhile and courageous life!

ILIKEFLYNN and I wish you all never to suffer tragedy only to experience the happiness of life it can offer!

Errols' Script

26 May

Errol wrote a script that would become a film. (1)What was the original title? (2)What was the renamed title? (3)What was the last title we would see on the screen?
