The Robin Hood Connection?

19 Aug

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, a podcast will become available. It will be on the above subject with a focus on the description below:

Errol Flynn in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)

In 1920, composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold was attacked by Vienna’s music critics for a symphonic work they called “too modern” and “too difficult.”

So, he must have found it particularly satisfying when—two decades later—he won the Oscar for his score to The Adventures of Robin Hood—which recycled much of that forgotten earlier work.

The story behind that is movie material itself—a series of dramatic turnabouts, with an unforgettable cast of characters, from Hollywood bigwigs to Nazi storm troopers.

You may tune in, at that time, by way of this address:

Mail Bag! A Candid Photo of Errol Flynn in a Car …

16 Aug

The Mailbag brings us a photo long buried in a trunk belonging to a pal of mine who says her grandparent took the image and she knows little else about it. We all know there must be such treasures in the attics of our older generation hidden from view. And here is one of those!

Thanks, my friend ..

Casus Belli

Dear Flynnstones,

watch San Francisco star attorney Melvin Belli defend Beverly Aadland’s interests after Errol Flynn‘s untimely death.

They basically state the late actor’s testament should read: last will to last wife.

Going Loco

27 Jul

Dear Flynnstones,

in the 1950s Errol & Amigos apparently acquired the Hotel Los Flamingos in Acapulco.

Known as the Hollywood Gang, John Wayne, Fred McMurray and Red Skelton, to name a few, partied hard at their hideaway south of the border.
Liz Taylor and Clark Gable came to visit.
In order to get a little sleep now and then, co-patron Johnny Weissmuller built his villa, the Casa Tarzan very nearby.

Rooms are still for rent.

Enjoy,

Duke & Baron

18 Jul

Deal Flynnstones,

the western vehicle “Carson City“ was to hit cinemas in 1953 starring Errol Flynn and John Wayne.

But the Wayne filmed Hondo instead and Errol made and did not make William Tell.

The CC gig went to Cary Grant‘s favorite player Randolph Scott and his eerie opponent from “Arsenic and Old Lace“, Raymond Massey.

From looking at the obligatory western saloon bar brawl scene, the Duke and the Baron may have dodged a bullet: m.youtube.com…
