Cutting Edge

21 Jun

Dear Flynnstones,

Robert James Gilbert Anderson represented Great Britain at the Olympic games in Helsinki of 1952 and finished fifth in the team sabre event.

One year later he got a call to coach Errol in “The Master from Ballantrae“.

During a rehearsal he superficially scratched Flynn’s thigh earning him the moniker “The man who stabbed Errol Flynn“ in Hollywood.

It also sparked a career in cinema as a fight choreographer and stunt performer unmatched in the field of sword and saber movies.

His vast work includes “Highlander“, “The Princess Bride“, “The Mask of Zorro“, “The Lord of the Ring“, “Pirates of the Carribean“, “Three Musketeers“, “The Guns of Navarone“, “From Russia with Love“, “Casino Royale“, “Die another Day“ and “Barry Lyndon“, as well as an unofficial outing as Dearth Vader in „Star Wars“.

In the documentary “Reclaiming the Blade“ he reminisced on a life of crossing swords: “I never took up the sword, I think the sword took me up.”

Which makes him the man who was taken up by the sword who stabbed Errol Flynn.

Enjoy,

Dancing with the Star

18 Jun

Dear Flynnstones,

let me share this rare snapshot of Errol Flynn and Frederick Austerlitz, the Nurejew from Nebraska.

Did it spark Errol‘s interest in putting on dancing shoes for once in Lilacs in Spring?

Then again he also was a big fan of Jackie Gleason‘s soft shoe shuffle.

Enjoy,

Errol Flynn and Bing Crosby, a Double Celebration!

15 Jun

Here  is the magazine coverage of Bing Crosby’s birthday party from Movie Life magazine, August, 1953. The party was actually held in Cannes, France and put on by Flynn, with Gary Cooper and friends. The celebration was a double party for Bing’s 50th birthday and the announcement of Flynn’s wife, Patrice Wymore, about their expected baby.

Bing Drinking

11 Jun

Dear Flynnstones,

I am sure this party was a blast. Matter of fact the Bing and the Baron got along so well they planned on setting up a production corporation with another famous actor and a great director.

Enjoy,

Mail Bag! Sean Flynn Remembered! From Mike Luehring …

03 Jun

From Mike Luehring’s FaceBook Posting:

Today we honor the extraordinary life of Sean Flynn—born May 31, 1941—not just as the son of Hollywood icon Errol Flynn, but as a man of rare courage, conviction, and purpose.

Sean was more than a war correspondent. Embedded with the Green Berets and MACV-SOG, he didn’t just cover the war—he lived it, fought in it, and stood shoulder to shoulder with Special Forces in active combat. When the moment came, Sean picked up a rifle and joined the men he had come to respect, not out of duty, but out of loyalty and shared risk. That choice marked him not just as a witness, but as a warrior.

In February of this year, Tours of Duty conducted a focused mission in Cambodia to further the search for Sean Flynn and Dana Stone, advancing casework in the very region where they were last seen in 1970. Our team, including veterans, forensic experts, and local partners, identified critical new leads and built local trust to support ongoing recovery efforts.

We also want to acknowledge Rory Flynn, Sean’s devoted sister. Her unwavering commitment to finding her brother has been a guiding light and a powerful testament to the love that endures through decades of unanswered questions.

Sean Flynn lived—and was lost—pursuing truth, honor, and brotherhood. Today, we recommit ourselves to bringing him home.

️ Happy Birthday, Sean. Your courage continues to inspire us. We haven’t stopped searching.
