Errol and Marilyn … Did it Happen?

18 Jan

The post will have several newspapers clipping and 2 pages of books.

The available evidence:

Danny Kaye’s account states that Errol met and snubbed Monroe Aug 19 1950 at a party Danny organized for Olivier Laurence and Vivian Leigh. That was the first time that they were introduced.

Errol wasn’t in LA on Aug 19 1950, he was in France.

Errol and Pat were at a party in LA on Aug 2 1950 with Danny Kaye present … but I found no evidence that Monroe was there.

The last big party Errol threw at Mulholland was  in feb 1949.

I also found no evidence that the ballet corps in the swimming pool was naked.

Supposedly the “bunny” race was at that party. (Hence, Feb 1949).

No evidence was found that Monroe was present or that such event even happened other than Hedy Lamar’s autobiography. She sued her ghost writer for filling the book with lies. No other accounts of the bunny race were found.

Truman Capote’s story was told only by Capote. A pathological liar, according to many observers. Errol couldn’t play the piano.

The letter of Marilyn to Errol … Monroe experts said that they have no recollection of the two meeting and the handwriting isn’t Monroe’s. The fact that it was auctioned by Christie’s means nothing. As of now that letter is considered a forgery.

So as of now I have zero evidence that Marilyn and Errol ever met …

According to my personal flynnology they indeed met at Betty Hutton‘s wedding party for Hollywood Entertainment columnist Louis Sobil at the Crystal Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel. Proof? Marilyn slipped Errol a note thanking him for the flowers he sent. It was handwritten on the invitation with the hostess‘ name on front: Mrs. Edward Francis Hutton.

Not sure where you got May 5th 1951. Also danny Kaye said Errol was with fiance Pat.
Even if they met in 1950 at a party in a hotel (no proof) the bunny race is out of question.

I have more snippets. The Sobol party at the Crystal Room was July 27 1950. Present Pat and Errol. I will have David add them. Present was also Danny Kaye.

The note is a forge. It is proven it isnt marilyn handwriting.

Right, May 5th 1951 marks the date of the photo tanken above. As far as the handwriting goes, I think it to be legit, even though there is a dyslectic slip (y before i) in the signature! Anxiety? Haste!? We have to take a closer look:…

Experts claim that isnt her handwriting.
Christies sold another letter that wasnt Monroe but her secretary
Experts have no recollection of them ever meeting.

The pic posted of Errol and Pat is falsely labeled 5th may 1951 on the internet. Is actually from the Sobol party on July 27th 1950.
There was no Betty Hutton party for Louis Sobol in 1951.

The party was july 27, 1950. Marilyn isnt mentioned in newspapers as being a guest. Also Monroe expert said that the note is a forgery. It isnt her handwriting and her name is misspelled.

Danny Kaye in his book said Errol met Monroe for the first time August 19th, 1950. Wrong. Errol was in France. The party was organized by him. Errol and pat were at the party at the Beverly Hills Hotel on July 27th, 1950 as you can see from my newspaper clipping. As of now there is zero evidence they met. After looking at letters Monroe wrote … is true the handwriting of the note doesn’t match. Is on Dina Merrill mother paper.

Christie sold it as original, but they sold forgeries before. So as of now. I see no concrete evidence.

In 1950 Marliyn Monroe was only one of a thousand would-be starlets in Hollywood. Unless she was on the arm of some big male film star, it is highly unlikely that MM would rate a mention in a show business column. She did not become a star until she made Niagra in 1954 thanks to her famous wiggle-walk.

MM experts and biographers deemed the note a fake. It isnt Monroe handwriting.
My problem is that Danny Kaye recollection is untrue. Also if Errol met MM in 1950…there is zero room for the story in Hedy autobiography. Btw Hedy sued her ghost writers. Supposedly she was at the party with johnny Hyde.

RR, MM was already in the arms of a prominent man at that time- the forever love happy Groucho. Still she was stashed away with 10+ other starlets like sardines in studio owned houses.

Yes she was already known. If she was at those parties it would have made the newspapers. It didnt. Just danny ksye bio and his info is proven wrong by above articles.

What also may have helped was her “handling” of yet another challenge at this time:

“A pompous visitor asked Marilyn Monroe at (on the set of) Niagara—”Is it true that when you posed for that famous calendar photograph, Miss Monroe, you had nothing on?” “No,” said our Marilyn, “I had the radio on.”

She was so embarrassed to do those pics. She asked for them to be released only if she wasnt recognizable.
That to me says one think..hedy lamar story is BS. Oddly enough she is the only one that saw it? Lol
Also she sued her ghost writer so what else os wrong in her autobiography?

That quick quip shows how her looks overshadowed her smarts, King Karl. When meeting Albert Einstein, Marilyn allegedly asked him, if he could imagine having kids with her. Her looks and his brains would make a fine combination…to which he replied: “Yes, but what if it was the other way round…“. Don‘t be fooled, she was sharp in any way.

That picture of Marilyn Monroe in the arms of Groucho Marx is taken on the set of the last Marx Brothers film “Love Happy” (1949). She only had a brief, bit role in that film and nothing more. In 1950 Marilyn Monroe was unknown in Hollywood and not be worth the newsprint to mention in column,

I stand corrected on “Niagra” which was released in 1953. Afterward Marilyn Monroe immediately starred with Jane Russell in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and with Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall in “How To Marry A Millionaire” all released in 1953.

Actually she is mentioned in the 1950s..1950 too.
She just isnt coming up with the parties at all.
Danny Kaye account is flawed as i explained above.
Errol was not at his party on aug 19th 1950. Errol was in France. That is the party that supposedly Monroe was at.
Errol and Pat were at the July 27th 1950 Betty Hutton party.
The note is being labeled as a fake by MM experts.
Also Monroe would never have been nude publicly. No one told of the “bunny race” but Hedy Lamar and is odd. If that happened there would be more recollections. There arent.
Like for example at a party Errol had swimmers doing a water ballet. Not naked either.
Whoever writes that is just spewing gossip to sell books.

While I find this discussion interesting, I thought I’d put in my two cents. While it is true that Marilyn Monroe was not yet a big star in 1950, she was in at least two high profile productions in 1950. Namely “The Asphalt Jungle” and “All About Eve”. Let’s not forget that her agent and paramour at the time was Johnny Hyde who was supposed to be one of the most powerful agents at the time. So I’m sure he would have done anything to get her name in the columns for publicity’s sake. But may I offer this: It has been said that Truman Capote told Marilyn that he slept with Errol Flynn, they never mention that she herself met him. Of course that is just hearsay, but maybe something to think about. For the record, if she had met him I think she would have made a big thing about it and mention it somewhere. Of course it is something to think that if he had met her and thought nothing of it, just remember this; when he was casting “Crossed Swords” he turned down Sophia Loren because he thought she was not sexy enough and chose Gina Lollabrigida as his leading lady instead. Just something to think about. (Also maybe he only had eyes for his then fiancee and future wife, Patrice Wymore.)–A. R.

I dont believe one word coming out of Truman’s mouth. I am even surprised if he met MM at all. The story of him talkig to MM is fiction. Truman was a compulsive liar.
No i dont think EF met MM. The bunny story after research just dont add up either.

Marilyn Monroe in 1950 was still nobody, just another unknown starlet, among a multitude of hungry starlets in Hollywood looking for that big break. On the big question of Errol Flynn meeting Marilyn Monroe at this Danny Kaye event, I have absolutely no idea as rumors in tinseltown take on a life of their own and become legends whether they are true or not.. She would certainly not be mentioned by the major Hollywood industry gossip columnists in 1950. Marilyn Monroe made the following films in 1950, “A Ticket To Tomahawk” which starred Dan Daily, Anne Baxter and Walter Brennan, Monroe had a small role as a saloon chorus girl with almost no lines. Her next was over at MGM for a small role with a few lines in “The Asphalt Jungle” which starred Jean Hagen and Sterling Hayden, Marilyn had only a brief scene with Louis Calhern. At Fox she returned to appear in a small role in “The Fireball” which starred Mickey Rooney, Beverly Tyler, and Pat O’Brien. At MGM Monroe had a small part in “Right Cross” which starred Dick Powell, June Allyson, and Riccardo Montalban. On “All About Eve” the stars were Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, Celeste Holm, and George Sanders, Gary Merrill, and Hugh Marlowe. Both Davis and Baxter were nominated for Academy Awards for the film and lost. George Sanders and Celeste Holm took home Academy Award Oscars for their roles in this blockbuster film. Marilyn Monroe appeared only in a single scene with a few lines as decoration on George Sanders’ arm. However a young unknown starlet did steal the movie “All About Eve” but it wasn’t Marilyn Monroe. It was Barbara Bates walking away with the picture in the closing scenes.
