After she made it big with Errol, Olivia won two Best Actress Oscars. She won her first in 1948 for “To Each His Own”. Seventy years ago today she won her second, for “The Heiress”. Below is Jimmy Stewart’s announcement of her winning, and her acceptance speech:

P.S. Ralph could tell us better than anyone else on earth who won Best Actor

Hi Barb. Like an underhand pitch to Babe Ruth, I was merely teeing this one up for Ralph, maestro of many, many movie topics, but especially in regard to who stood next to Olivia with an Oscar seventy years ago this week. Ralph, however, is not swinging, so let’s make it a quiz!

Ah, great clue, Tim. Broderick Crawford, for his role in All the King’s Men. Wonderful performance and just a tad different from Highway Patrol. :-)

Yes, indeed, Barb! It was B.C. for All the King’s Men, presented by Jane Wyman, the Star of King’s Row’s Wife/One of the Future President’s Women, until 1949 (hence, I believe, the “Two White Dresses” joke” in the video below)
