I never read the book but I enjoyed the film and so did my wife. See it in the theater before it goes away.

Ebay has the DVD listed too. The seller says the DVD is region-free and formatted for NTSC. Amazon says Region 4 and in the PAL format. I ordered from the Australian ebay seller, so I guess we will see. I do have an all-region DVD player which can play PAL DVDs so I hope all my bases are covered. Delivery is for the last half of February.
Amazon also has the film score available to download.

Gteat news, twinarchers! So glad you and your wife both enjoyed it, and on the Big Screen, no less! … Not here in FLA, nor anywhere near … at least not to my knowledge.

EXCELLENT on all fronts!
The cinematography, editing, music, screenplay, and especially the RICHNESS in appearance (shades of the WB character actors) and performances of all on board (and off)…
In short, if it weren’t about Flynn, could be a stand alone movie about young men and their adventures.
(Alas, with a 50 rating, or there abouts, on the Tomatomometer of the Rotten Tomatoes site… it won’t get the attention it deserves, despite recognizable critics generally giving it positive reviews.)
This is by no means the current film “Stan and Ollie” where the main characters ARE who they portray…
Instead in our biopic, there are flashes of Flynn much as in the last of Robin Hood which, to my taste, is GOOD.
Thomas Cocquerel as Flynn captures the very essence of Errol’s own words as regards his special homage to a friend. In the Tony Thomas interview Flynn relates these thoughts: “To play Jack (Barrymore), of course, is a very hard thing…you DO NOT give an imitation of him. That’s bad. I took a period of his life… and this is what I think you’ll see…”
The ending of “In Like Flynn” was THE one rough patch to the whole film, (IMhO- much like the near end, of the book, My Wicked Wicked Ways) but- to the less familiar it might be just the right HOLLYWOOD ending.
It’s playing at AMC theaters here in the states but is easily missed in the long list of their offerings…

Thank you, Karl! Especially after your In Like Flynn review I can’t wait to see it! Unfortunately, I haven’t Florida yet. It’s release for big screen viewers seems to be at a tough time, when the theaters are filled with Oscar contenders. Considering it’s budget, it could be on its beam ends in the American market.
“ONCE upon a time, long before Errol Flynn ever heard of Hollywood or thought of being an actor, he bought a little sailing ship. He was a roving young adventurer who had had a bit of luck with a gold claim in New Guinea just when his fortunes seemed to be at their lowest ebb.”

From a distance of an ocean away I would have prefered Errol`s grandson to play the main part in this new EF film. It could at least have added some family flair to to the difficult task to depict an amazing life story. Look at Sylvester Stallone who stayed strong insisting on playing Rocky himself instead of selling off his script. Luke like Flynn it should have been…

These adventures are the reason I was back in like Flynn 30 years ago. The real life of Errol is much more interesting to me then even the films and their glitz and glamour. I know he took some license in his books but the essence of his life is in them. The again he is and was very blessed to have such talented and handsome grandsons to carry on……

My DVD is said to arrive from Australia this Friday. I will let you know if it is compatible with US DVD players. I pulled out my copy and there is this, in the first chapter of BEAM ENDS, that tips off the reader to what will follow. And must have served as inspiration to the film-makers of IN LIKE FYLNN. Errol writes-
“Usher’s is the famous Sydney hotel where foregather all the men from the South Sea Islands… You will hear of encounters with unknown tribes of savage head-hunters, of close shaves by ambush in the New Guinea jungles, of good gold prospects found in the mountains of Solomon Islands…You will hear how So and So’s canoe capsized in the vast crocodile-infested Sepik River, of which no man knows the source… Bend a leg on the bar foot-rail and you will hear many strange and wonderful stories. What is more, a lot of them are true. I know, because I have told some true ones myself.”

DVD arrived today. Plays on all of my US DVD players without a problem. It’s a bare-bones release but the movie displays with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 on a 16:9 Widescreen. Plus the soundtrack is in 5.1 English Dolby audio. The running time is 98m. There is no menu, extras, or subtitles.
The DVD appears to be legitimate and not a boot-leg. IN LIKE FLYNN’s official Australian DVD release date was Feb 6th.
