Actually, the crew and much of the cast did stay at The Oaks Hotel, but the principals, including Flynn, de Havilland, and Rathbone stayed farther afield at the Richardson Springs Hotel.

And Tiger Lil, too, I believe – trying to keep Errol from climbing up Olivia’s balcony.

Went to Chico last year with my son and we saw a cool bench dedicated to Errol. Though near a relatively prominent corner not far from the university, it’s not well known at all among locals. I have a photo of it somewhere, I think in my old cell phone. He is remembered for partying at a popular downtown saloon – still there under a different name. One of my brothers (also a VERY Big fan of Flynn) graduated from CSU Chico, and used to speak with local old timers and those in the know about Errol’s time in town. By all accounts, he had quite a time in Chico!

Here’s a photo of that bench. Can’t be seen here, but on its side is an inscription essentially dedicating it to Errol, after whom it’s named:

Great work, Robert. It’s rather difficult to find all the Robin Hood locations in beautiful Bidwell Park. Here’s a link to an excellent collection of historical photos taken in and of the park:
