Mail Bag! Kevin McAleer: Errol Flynn a Life in Verse!

03 May

Dear David,

It has been quite some time since we last had contact. You may remember me – the guy who was writing an epic poem on the life of Errol Flynn. Well, ten years in the making and I recently finished it. Now of course comes the real work, finding a publisher, but in the meantime I thought you might like to read the manuscript version. Book-length poems may not be your bag, but the Flynn aspect could still carry you through.

I see that the blog is flourishing. Back in 2009 you were kind enough to post some of my stanzas. So my impulse in contacting you now is not completely self-serving – I thought you might be curious to see how things turned out.

On 11 May I have a rearding from the poem at the renowned literary salon of Britta Gansebohm, with novelist/playwright Carey Harrison moderating:

Best Regards,

Kevin McAleer

Thanks, Kevin!

A Shore Thing

04 Jan

This month is the 90th Anniversary of Sydney Church of England Grammar School’s most famous student – Flynn, E.L.T. “Shore” was Errol’s last school.

The notably high-achieving but “severe” headmaster who ejected Flynn – LC Robson. Robson deleted all evidence of Errol’s attendance at Shore (Student Entrance No. 3955) from school records, but Flynn, of course, prevailed – still regarded the school’s most renowned alumni (“Old Boy” in the school’s parlance.)

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

the read realchristianmcqueen.com…

is interesting enough, but more intriguing is the comment at the bottom of the page.

It comes from former blog Flynnthusiast Robert Florczak stating he finally completed his latest he-art work on our Hollywood hero.

If so, we are in for a treat under the Christmas tree. 2000 pages on Flynn with more than 10.000 pictures- that took time, effort and money! One penny a pic would be a bargain, ten cents a page still a steal…the purchase price does not worry me as much as whether coffee tables worldwide will withstand the weight of the opus´ corpus.

Personally, I am very curious if Errol really ever visited that nail shop in Bali.

Robert, I implore you to rejoin the blog, be it under the name of Rogueczak or Anonymous, but please give us the rundown on the release of the Bible of Errol.

Halleluja,

The Errol Flynn Blog Mailbag! Lincoln Hurst’s book Reviewed?

23 Jul

Karl Holmberg, a greast friend of The Errol Flynn Blog sent me a review back in 2010 of our dear friend Prof. Lincoln D. Hurst’s forthcoming book ERROL FLYNN: The True Adventures of a Real Life Rogue. (Linc hated the Rogue part of the title but it was a compromise.) The book was never published becasuse our friend passed away while trying to reconstruct lost chapters in a computer crash and write the book so Karl bring’s up the question, How do you accurately review a book that never saw print, or even galleys?

The REVIEW!
