Great video, Inga! Thanks for posting it!

This really shows Errol – and the U.S. – on top of the world. Tom McNulty gives an absolutely wonderful account of this legendary event.

I know Errol claimed not to like his Westerns, but he sure was mighty-fine good in them. He was great on a horse, great with the dialogue, great with the Old West ladies, and great with his guns & fists. I particularly enjoy him putting an end to corrupt Bruce Cabot in this one. And, of course, Dodge City included the brawl to end all brawls. … Indeed, I think Mel Brooks may based his Blazing Saddles brawl on this one by Curtiz, who was such a master with crowd scenes.

I highly recommend Tom McNulty’s terrific account of this tremendous event (commencing on p.82) , in his tremendous biography of Errol – which would make a GREAT Christmas gift for all!

BTW, In this Dodge City promo-photo is one of the few men ever to get the better of Errol in a fist-fight, aftger which they became friends. He is also an immortal legend in American history.

Never thought of that, Inga! … maybe I should include a note about that in my Christmas card to Tom! While I’m at it, I’ll write to Jim Thorpe’s people for a small commission, too!! Why not Geoffrey Thorpe’s, also! This kind of praise doesn’t come cheap, even/especially during the Yuletide season.

        Bah humbug, scrooge them all.

Let’s take Thorpe’s medals back (again) too!
… and keep denying Errol an Oscar!!

Here he is – America’s Greatest Athlete and one of the very few men to ever get the better of Errol Flynn in a fist-fight* – something Errol greatly admired:

*27-years or so prior to his appearance in film and (off-screen) pugilistic duel with Errol Flynn! Errol tested Thorpe and found his reputation (and right-cross) to be rock-solid, even into his fifties.

Wow how good is that! :D

I love Errol in his Westerns too,I don’t usually really like Westerns, but I do if Errol is in them.I especially like him in Dodge City & Rocky Mountain.

Yeah, this is great! Fun to watch. I’ve seen it before (I think it’s a Bonus Feature on the Dodge City DVD) but thanks for reposting it here, Inga! :-)

Aaah… no wonder I haven’t seen it as I only have a German TV recording of Dodge. Thanks, Rachel!
