Quizzing out of the Year

30 Dec

Here's an easy one in case you have had one drink too many on the last day of the year:

Which Spanish national hero can be seen in “Adventures of Don Juan”? And when and where can he be seen?

Note: it is neither Don Juan nor Leporello.

Good luck and Happy New Year to All.

Don't mix it up with “The Sun Also Rises”. Besides, I meant HUMAN hero.

Oh, uh….just the other night. Yeah, that's it–the other night. Out near the windmill. It's the truth I tell ya. Ya gotta believe me–ya hear? The truth!

Normally I always believe you, my friend, but this time… maybe if you show me a screenshot of the windmill.

    Happy New Year!
Wow – Inga you are tough!
Now there are some mentioning of heroes, but actually seen? Mentioned are Columbus, but he was Italian then Charlemagne, but he was actually German then Juan Ponce de Leon who was a Spanish hero but can't be seen.
So that leaves only the big statue on the big staircase, but I can't make out the name fully – Horacio Diaz de Varga or Vegas or so!
That's all I can come up with.
Credit must be given to Robert he sure tried hard even composed a picture!
    So what is the answer?

Excellent, first Tina and then Rachel who nailed it. You both get one point! And it can be seen during the final duel between Don Juan and the Marquis de Lorca.
I recently found that this statue has a name at all, so I thought this would make a nice quiz question. You are great, girls – next questions to you!

Um, I think the answer is El Cid. It's a statue of El Cid, and it's on that grand staircase in the palace. Can't quite recall exactly which scene(s) it's visible in.

Not so excellent for me as El Cid's name was Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar and not Horacio and not Varga or Vega either! It was very difficult to read not having a big screen yet. Also I forgot to mention the scene that it was the duel between Don Juan and the Marquis de Lorca.
I would say it is your turn Rachel to place the next tricky question as you guessed it perfectly! Clever girl!

Agreed, Tina, but still you led Rachel into the right direction.
I could not sleep last night because I felt bad for not attributing Robert a bonus point for his wonderful picture. So here it is, Robert. 1 Bonus Point to your account.

    Hi Inga and Tina!
Thanks, but I'm not sure I can come up with a really good quiz question, as I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about Errol, his life and his films as you two are (and others here at the blog like David and Robert).
If you, Tina, or someone else thinks of a good question, please post it and don't wait for me. :-)

    Hi Rachel;
I am sure you know an intricacy or two of Errol!
It would be so nice for more members to participate.
    Happy New Year – Tina

While re-attributing the comments to this quiz question, I noticed that the thread is entirely mixed up, no more direct connections between the comments. What a pity, but at least they’re still there.

I also discovered that Rachel still owes us a quiz question!!!

Hach, it’s all so new and exciting!!
