Did you know?

Did you know that Stars were forced to charge their fans a fee for their fan-mail-pictures? Errol and Olivia's Warner mailing card do not bear their real signature, see for yourselves! What ever the case – wow – this is sure news to me! Maybe to you too?

    It is logical if you consider the amount of fanmail. And it reminds us to think about how many of Errol's signatures are real. Even with a certificate of authenticity – I heard that there were many girls sitting and signing those thousands of pictures which were requested every day.

    I agree. Yet there were some who wanted to answer everyone themselves if you can imagine….

    Hi Mary Ann;
    One has to know their actual signature!
    Here is Errol's actual signature:

    As I learned, Tina, Errol changed his signature over the years, so it is hard to tell which one is genuine and which one a fake.

    Nobody can repeat ones signature identically every time, but one recognizes his own signature immediately!

    Yes, but there are at least three different styles which he had over the years and this style was also imitated by the girls signing his fan mail in the office, according to what I heard.

    Having been around big celebrities for years I can tell you that they rarely sign their own business checks. They have neither the time nor the interest. Invariably, celebrities have their business managers pay their bills and sign the checks, usually with the manager having learned to produce a good facsimile of the celebrity's signature. This is why, for instance, you'll notice the name of Flynn's business manager, Al Blum, below the signature line, and is why I would never purchase a celebrity check no matter how much the seller hyperventilates about its authenticity. COAs are notoriously undependable, and only a trained handwriting expert–not simply someone “familiar” with the celebrity's signature–can reliably and accurately analyze and authenticate a signature.

    Hihi… I was trying to explain to Tina the same, but in other, not so authoritative words… more carefully, by saying that Errol's signature changed over the years and that you can never be sure if it is authentic. I didn't have your expert insight, of course.

    I would say Robert you have a great point there and in particular with Errol extremely possible. Errol did not take care of his finances very well – could otherwise Al Blum have ripped him off so badly for hundreds of thousands of dollars?
    I agree I would never purchase a cheque or autograph or any of that kind of signature memorabilia as authentication would always be questionable.

    Ohoh, thanks teacher you are wonderful and I do appreciate you and your wisdom very much!
    But here is an authentic signature for all of you! Contracts have to be signed by the person itself not the business manager and this one is from a contract.

    There is no wisdom here, I just tried to pass on what I learned. Sorry.

    I've read a few times that Joan Crawford spent hours everyday writing to her fans and personally signing photos.

    Rondo Hatton spent more than that.
