Young Errol working at Dalgety's?

03 Feb

Ahoy, Chums!

I got an interesting email from Michele Stephens who edits a genealogy magazine in Australia and is wondering about Errol's time working at Dalgety's. She writes:

I am the editor of a genealogy magazine in Australia and this morning received a letter from a lady whose mother worked for Dalgety's in Sydney when Errol Flynn was the office boy. I located this blog site while seeking proof that he had, in fact, worked at Dalgety's.

The letter that arrived today was in response to 2 recently published articles about Errol Flynn's ancestry which came about as a result of Errol's daughter Rory's visit to Australia late last year. While she was here, Rory Flynn presented more than 25 love letters written by her late father to her mother, Nora Eddington, to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery which is preparing an exhibition to be held in June this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Errol Flynn's birth.
Thank you and regards
Michele Stephens

I suspect Tom McNulty may have some information. Anybody else?

    Regarding Errol working at Dalgetys.While I was working there in the late 70's-early 80's i was told that Errol bought his ticket to leave Sydney with money he got from the petty cash at Dalgetys.When he became a star years later Dalgetys sent him the bill for the money owing.Errol sent back an autographed photo of himself stating this should more than cover the outstanding debt-cheeky.I was then told that the bosses loved it and it was still in the Dalgety archives when I was working there.

    I do not have any information on Errol working at Dalgetys but I have read the published articles mentioned in the original post. They are of Errol's ancestry and are very interesting.

    Hi Tony;
    You say you read the published articles mentioned in the original post? Which original post are you talking about? Furthermore, and in particular you are saying “They are of Errol's ancestry and are very interesting”, could you be so kind and give us some details about this comment of yours? Maybe some specific links that would be great and I am sure all our members would like to know about that.
    Take care,

    Hi Tina
    The original post is from the editor of a magazine Australian Family Tree Connections (see above), click on link, then 'back issues'. Two articles on Errol's maternal ancestry, October 2008 and February 2009. There is also one on his paternal ancestry, July 2009.
