A note from Chris Driscoll…

04 Mar

An email arrived from my good friend Chris Driscoll of Australia… in it, among many other things, Chris mentions the following:

“Just back from a wonderful roast Lamb dinner with my divine 87 yr old neighbor, Alice.  She loves Errol & told me she once visited the room that Ann Franks hid in during WW2 & where she wrote her famous diary.

“They were born in the same year and Alice remarked that in Ann’s attic room was a poster of Errol as Robin Hood. Errol probably never knew that he helped sustain a young woman whose life would be tragically cut short…”

I think this is worth mentioning  on the blog, too…

This is really touching. In Germany, we study Anne’s life at school and everybody knows her… thanks so much for sharing, David!

Very nice, David. I was in Ann’s room also and saw many Hollywood pictures on the walls but don’t recall the one of Errol. When I revisit I will look more attentively.

    Email from Chris today:

    Hello David,
Just had coffee with Alice & she tells me that her son did some digging around on the net & found that some of the pictures that covered the wall were in fact taken down as they had become too fragile. Also, it is well documented that Anne Frank’s father gave her newspaper & magazine clippings of ‘Hollywood Movie Star’s’.
Alice also recollects a picture of Princess Elizabeth ( Now Queen Elizabeth ) on the wall as well.
The removal of some of those pictures may have included Errol’s picture . If your friend Robert Florczak went to the Anne Frank room & didnt notice Errol’s picture, then I dare say it has been removed. Mr Florczac has an Errol Flynn Radar beyond compare.
This morning Alice recalled the moment when she beckoned her husband to look at Errol & Clark Gable’s pictures whilst they were in the room.
The above may explain if and why the picture of Errol has been removed.

    Cheers for now chum, Chris
