Today I was trying to find out more about his life as a 16 year old runaway living in a cave in The Domain, Sydney. I was stunned to find this article, from about the same time he was there. It was in a newspaper called The Geraldton Guardian. The link/address is:….au/newspaper/article/67094533

    Sydney, July 20. (1925)

The sordid side of life in the Sydney Domain was on Sunday revealed by the discovery of the body of Albert Trezise, aged 58 years, a human derelict, who had lived for years in a cave in the Domain. The cave was his home, and newspapers his bedclothes. He washed at a drinking fountain, and got such food, as other dwellers in the Domain brought him. He did not work, and his clothes were in rags. When discovered his body was in a terrible state and covered with dirt and vermin. There was .nothing in bis pockets. It appears that he did not have any relatives.

And this is a picture from probably a little after Errol was there. But I’m sure this was just what he would have seen every day of his life during that period. The link/address is:… “Unemployed man squatting and cooking in the Domain during the Great Depression, Sydney NSW,” ca.…" alt="a>" />
