Moving The Errol Flynn Blog to Wordpress!

When we move The Errol Flynn Blog to WordPress which will be soon... there are some things to consider, according to Domainmonger Support. Please read this over carefully! There will be some difficulties to overcome and we will overcome them... There is both good news and bad in the support reply I received.

The worst bad news is that it is difficult to move comments over to our new home at WordPress! Since this is an essential part of our blog's lifeblood, we are going to move them, irregardless. Please read through this reply to see what difficulties lay ahead and we will figure out how to overcome them before we put an oar in the water or a unfurl a sail...

What content can be migrated from Blogware to WordPress?

All Articles and posts from your Blogware blog can be migrated to your WordPress blog.

Photos in Photo Albums are migrated. Photo Albums become Categories of your WordPress blog .

Comments can also be migrated. However, a bug in the Blogware export file causes the author information for a comment to not be retained. So all the comments when imported into WordPress are attributed to “Anonymous”.

The problem is with the Blogware export file unfortunately so this issue would happen whether you move your Blogware site to WordPress or any other hosting service. Therefore, you can request, and in fact we suggest, that we do not migrate comments from your Blogware blog to your new WordPress-based blog.

URL Redirection – You are currently hosting on your own domain name, so, we will be able to redirect your original Blogware URLs to your new WordPress URLs so not only will all your old links continue to work, but you will main your current Google ranking.

All files uploaded to your blog’s File Manager will be migrated. So if you have uploaded images to accompany your blog articles for example, we’ll move those images to your new WordPress account.

What will not be migrated?

The layout or Color Scheme for your blog will not be preserved. The WordPress Theme format is completely different from the Blogware Color Scheme format, so you will have to choose a new look for your blog. The good news is that in WordPress there are thousands of free themes available at the WordPress Themes Directory, or you can create your own custom theme.

Sidebar components are not migrated. If you have created any custom components for your blog sidebar, you would need to recreate them on your new WordPress blog using WordPress’ Widgets feature. Neither custom components nor Favorites components are migrated.

Attachments are not migrated unfortunately as they are not exposed by the Blogware migration tools. If you have added attachments to your articles, they will not be migrated to your new account. Trackbacks are not migrated.

Blog Settings are not migrated. Since the Blogware system and WordPress system are so different, it is not possible to take any of the settings for your Blogware blog and simply migrate them to your new WordPress blog. Please check out this excellent guide to WordPress Administration Settings for information on configuring the Settings of your new WordPress blog.

Web Pages are not migrated. If you have any Web Pages, a special type of post which is not dated, you will need to re-create them using the analogous Pages feature in WordPress.

Permissions are not migrated. Category settings and permissions work very differently in WordPress, and we are unable to apply any of the permissions in your Blogware blog to your WordPress-based PressHarbor account.

User accounts are not migrated. So if you have users with permissions to your current Blog, those user accounts will not exist on the new WordPress site. You will need to reconfigure your site using the WordPress Roles and Capabilities framework.

This means that all current members will have to rejoin The Errol Flynn Blog, once it has been moved. You will be able to find the blog using the same URL as it has now: http://theerrolflynnblog.com when it has been moved and is ready for shipmates, again!

At this point, I am as new to all of this as you reading this. I hope there will some expert advice over at WordPress about how to reassign comments to their original owners! And about how to keep our attachments which are so vital to some of our posts!

I will be writing to WordPress for some advice regarding all of this! Nothing is happening immediately, but it will happen soon from the sound of things...

Rare copy of Showdown by Errol Flynn for sale!

A very rare copy of Errol Flynn's novel "Showdown" exists which was signed by Errol Flynn to his parents in May of 1946. The book was a gift to Marguerite Gauron of Port Antonio, Jamaica, by Flynn's widow, Patrice Wymore and is now about to be sold privately.

My friend writer and editor Dennis Mullen who recently returned from a trip to Jamaica and met both Pat Wymore and Marguerite Gauron while working at the Errol Flynn Marina doing some rebranding and editing work has been given the go ahead to offer this extremely rare autographed book for sale and he expects the book to sell for up to ten thousand dollars...

Coal Train Productions and Generic Filmgroup announced today that former Teen Idol SEAN FLYNN, fresh from his long-running role as Chase on Nickelodeon's "Zoey 101," will be co-starring in his first adult role in "Return of the Killer Shrews." Flynn's role as Derek will utilize his comedic skills first honed on the popular Teen TV series and provide added thrills to his large TV fan base. "Return of the Killer Shrews," set on a mysterious island in the gulf of Mexico, places Flynn in a modern-day horror setting, but with a touch of blood-drenched comic mayhem ala "Shawn of the Dead" and the slightest flavor of retro Tiki exotica ala the great Drive-in horror flicks of the 1950s and 1960s. And Flynn even gets a chance to use his considerable charm, like his famous Grandfather, ERROL FLYNN.

"Return of the Killer Shrews" goes before the cameras in May, with release scheduled for next year. --- This should be 2012 unless somebody has better information than me?

I just saw a fabulous one and an half hour documentary of Jack Cardiff as an introductory of him being honored as the star celebrity of the month. He also spoke of Errol, but no mentioning of the ill-fated movie of William Tell. He was the cinematographer for 'The Master of Ballantrae 1953' and 'Crossed Swords 1954', it must have been during this time that they became friends as later Errol chose him to be his director for 'William Tell', with which Errol would have given him his first chance to direct a movie and with his most fabulous cinematography expertise it would have been a fantastic movie. Apparently and as stated in the documentary Jack Cardiff was very interested to direct movies and as it looks like Errol maybe saw the talent in his capacity and wanted for Jack a start of a 'dream come true'. What a great pity that it didn't fly! Jack, although went into directing from 1960 to 1974 and directed eight movies and was behind the camera from 1936 to 2000. He speaks of Errol collapsing on the set during the filming of 'Crossed Swords' at which time the doctors told him his liver is gone and he is on his way out or so to say. Not Errol - he came back with a tumbler full of Vodka in his hand.
We all have read that Errol was hospitalized in Naples for that liver problem, but not during what movie, now we know - it was 'Crossed Swords'.

Jack' s movie credits as a cinematographer are incredible! He worked with Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn, Deborah Kerr, Sophia Loren, Ingrid Bergman, David Niven, Humphrey Bogart, Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston, James Mason just to name a few and of course with our Errol!
Jack Cardiff was quite a man and to be admired for his great contribution to the movie industry (if you are interested read all about him jackcardiff.com and therefore it is not surprising that Hollywood gave him an honorary Oscar for his accomplishments. As we all know they are quite stingy with them. Apparently and please correct me if I am wrong, I am not up to par with Oscars, cinematography is not one of the Oscar awarding category or was not in his time. Whatever the case he received one, although late in his life, for serving the movie industry a lifetime most outstandingly!
Errol, would he have lived to see it would have been very pleased about it!

I read with keen interest the various exchanges on Flynn radio appearances at the blog. 2 "lost" related programs came up in your discussion to which I can highlight with some additional information and then conclusions (since you never know what is gonna turn up to either further support or refute) of a few years back . I also attach some additional info on the "other losts" if you are so inclined to share them because remember...

A whole INTENDED (8-21 programs) series of “THE MODERN ADVENTURES OF CASANOVA” - circa 5/22/52 (based on information contained in a letter, with MGM letterhead, for sale on internet). Only one episode was made or has survived entitled “THE MISSING ARM OF VENUS DE MILO”. Also referred to as “JAMACIA” under University of Memphis radio archives. Flynn apparently headed for Europe sometime after recording of this program in NYC (in addition to 3 Toast of the Town appearances) where Crossed Swords, illness, and William Tell were to ultimately face him. And, given the events of the aforementioned, I do not believe that Flynn had the "inclination" to come back and complete the terms of his Casanova contract (dated 11/15/51) and record any additional programs.

“Bill Stern Sports Newsreel” NOTE: Announced for next 4 weeks beginning on 7/02/48, #453, John Garfield subs, then F.Sinatra, W.Powell, and Errol Flynn. (Following the order- Garfield: 7/2, Sinatra: 7/9, Powell: 7/16, and Errol Flynn: 7/23. BUT- extant recordings say for show # 456, 7/23/48, Jimmy Stewart subs, and NO OTHER LISTINGS FOR FLYNN- not even as guest. Therefore, Flynn never substituted.

As I am combing my records for the information of the bronze statue on Errol's grave I came across of the full sentence Jack Warner spoke and how right he was!

I was on the IE9 browser in response to Tom McNulty's email that no browser he has tried yet shows him any articles or photos of the EFB - and absently right clicked in the big grey blank space of the article page I was on and noticed I had Bing translator available so for kicks as Errol might say, I clicked on translate this page and damned if it didn't result in that page's articles and photos appearing! English was auto-detected for the page and translated into English, as well... if you view the two pages side by side, the first window shows the blank page until the translator finishes turning it into English, too! What is going on here is so weird... Just sayin'...

An email I received today from someone in Los Angeles who I have known with great affection for several years.
Suzy refers to me as Mr. DeWitt despite our years of friendship when she adds my name to photos! She has been a wonderful pen-pal...

She writes:

We were visiting my parents' graves today. Afterwards we visited Errol Flynn's.

His grave looked deserted when I got there, no Christmas wreaths, no poinsettias.

I laid today's newspaper on his grave so you would know the pictures were freshly taken from today

by me. I put 3 tiny cheesy decorations on his grave, that is all I had with me...
