Steve! I hope Genene is doing fine and will be home soon! She was first to point out something fun in regards to my name in Hobart sending me a pic of herself beneath a sign reading De Witt Street! Close enough for me (no space is used in my name spelling although there was one back in the early history of its spelling!) So I was smiling when I saw the pic Volker included of a sign giving directions:

Sorry for not replying sooner but I had to go out!
In answer to your question I have the following to offer and maybe David and Robert has also some information to add to this for you.
Errol's paternal grandmother Jessie Flynn nee Thomson of which Errol and his father had her maiden name as one of their middle names and the only address known to me is that she lived at
28 Brighton Boulevard in Bondi - suburb of Sydney.
Errol's maternal grandmother Edith Young-Hammer nee Madden
lived in Manly before 1920 - I have no address - in 1920 she moved to
54 Carabella Street in Kirribilli - suburb of Sydney and in the mid 1920s she moved to
279 Avoca Street in Randwick - suburb of Sydney.
While you are at it maybe you could also check out if the USHER"S HOTEL is still around as it was a famous hunting ground of Errol, where he met Marge Parks, had free snitched lunches and bought cigarettes only to sell them again cross the street to recuperate his investment.

I am sure Robert or David could add a few good addresses for you to check out and make some outstanding everlasting new historical pictures.

I thought I give you some picture as a guideline, which I found of the addresses in question on Google maps of which I have these pictures I am posting. Problem is one never can be sure of the actual address as one can't find the house number readily and therefore it becomes often guess work which of course is not good enough for publication on the blog.

You see, I am in the process of recording for posterity on the blog all Errol Flynn's Homes, which you can see on the tab to the left of this page and of course I have to be accurate, hence me asking this great favour of you to check them out and photograph them, but only if you have the time. I don't wish to burden you, I am only asking - if by any chance you are able to do it, it would be ever so great.

Here is 28 Brighton Boulevard the former home of grandmother Jessie Flynn.



Here is 54 Carabella Street, Kirribilli the former home of grandmother Edith Young-Hammer.



Here are two possibilities - it is either one or the other as they are side by side - question is - which one is number 54???



And here is another picture of a former home of grandmother Edith Young-Hammer 279 Avoca Street.

This may all serve to confuse Volker. #54 Carabella, as has been discussed here, is not the tall, cream corner building, but most likely the right side of the duplex listed as #52. And Volker, if you really want to scope out a fascinating historical gem, go to the Spotlight department store at 65 Ebley Street in Bondi Junction and take some pictures inside, for it is within those walls, the former Cinesound Studios, that our Errol filmed his scenes for "In The Wake Of The Bounty." (I would mention that this info is from The Chronology but it might look like book plugging) Happy hunting, mate!

my plan is to take the bus tomorrow to Bondi. 65 Ebley St & 28 Brighton Blvd. & Coogee Beach are on my list. Tim Griffith from Canberra sent me some outside photos from the former Studios last October, but since it will be Monday, I should be able to get inside.

But if it's Tuesday it must be Belgium!

I found #50 around the corner of the white house (it showed the number on the door clearly) and we discussed that and therefore we said #52 would be the left door of the front of the house and #54 could be most likely the right door, but just in case if it is not so I took a picture of the house next door maybe that could be #54. In any case Volker will clear the mystery and we thank him very much for it. Take care - Tina

#54 is the red brick building to the right, as Robert assumes correctly. the street number cannot be read easily from more than 2-3 metres, but it's easy when you stand in front of it. I#ll probably post photos tomorrow.
