I got a nice email from Steve Hayes today, wishing me a Happy Thanksgiving and bringing me up to date with things in LA. Steve and his sometime English collaborator writer David Whitehead are busy with new books and David updated Steve's website at SteveHayes.org recently. Steve and his lovely wife Robbin were literally headed out the door to spend some time in Palm Springs. Steve is writing westerns and two new mysteries, he says - working out on the treadmill and enjoying life!
When I grow up, I want to be just like Steve Hayes! Thursday, November 24

I've just been watching Olivier in Rebecca and have been revisiting Olivier's work. I have a few biographies on Olivier but Errol is not mentioned in these. I can't believe they both did not have any contact with each other, especially knowing both Laurence & Errol were good friends of Noel Coward. Does anyone know, have read or have photos of Laurence and Errol together. I suspect both would have been good friends or got along, and again as David Niven was a friend of Laurence's, they must have been friends. If anyone can add further, would appreciate the information. kind regards Diana

Vicky Nelson asks:
Is there any chance if you would know who is in this negative.
Found at the Hollywood home of a person quite involved in film.
We were wondering if it was Erroll & Olivia and maybe some
other leading lady.
Thank you for your help.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Vicky Nelson
PS.....negative is 7 3/4” x 9 3/4”

I recently found this little booklet. It contains those fun stamps which we mentioned before (you can see the Robin Hood one in the attached picture). It seems as if this is an advertisement for Warner Brothers and their films in Germany. There are many films of Errol contained, all with such a stamp and a short summary of contents. As you can see, Errol is also featured prominently on the cover, which indicates the "value" he had for Warner Bros. in Germany. After the presentation of the films, there are short biographies of the most important Warner players. However, here, Errol is NOT featured, which struck me as his films make up quite an enormous portion of all featured films. I am wondering now if the same existed on the US market and if it is similar in the choice of films and actors?

My good friend Author & Mixed Media Artist Cindy Adkins has produced a Suede Cigar Box dedicated to Errol Flynn. She made this as a surprise to show me more of her talents - which are many! I was interviewed for one of her newest Amazon Kindle books called Blogging: It's a Man Thing, a companion to her book Blogging: It's a "Woman Thing" - see more images of this great looking piece on her Whimsical Musings Magazine site...
Just scroll down the page when you get there! Thanks, Cindy! Friday, November 11

I just became aware of that special date and remembered that Patric Knowles was born a hundred years ago today. What a special date for a special friend of Errol. Happy Birthday!

Never heard an answer to my John Wayne question. Is there a record of them knowing each other, and, if so, how did they regard one another? Kevin

I'm relieved. I didn't understand it anyway ( computer challenged). Keep up the great work - a wonderful blog - it really adds to my day. Kevin

It was well intended! But it won't work out - so already the Secure Category is defunct! I might have deleted the entire article referring to it but Robert's comments about it are amusing enough that I think it won't be a waste of electronic ink to let the posting hang out in Cyberspace for the time being. Who knows, I may change my mind on that, too!

Remember the video with our friend Ventura about Errol's time on the island of Mallorca? And the work Mamen and Tina were doing to translate it into English? I have finally fnished adding subtitles to it. Sorry it took me so long, but it was a bit of work. Also, Mamen worked hard to translate the other parts which are not about Errol. Thanks to her and Tina again! I have created a new youtube channel to host the video. I had to split it up to be able to upload it. I thought that it'd be a good idea to have an own channel for the blog, so that also other videos can be uploaded. You can contact me for the password if you want to upload something. Hope you enjoy. P.S. All the parts are now online on our new channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheEFBlog?feature=mhee

Hopefully, this will not be too disruptive for us! Spammers do not seem to realize that their comments will not be indexed, and get removed as soon as I see them. If they went to blogs where they could make decent comments about an appropriate subject their comments might stay in place but we tend to get the same trolls actively setting down links over and over again which is a huge waste of their time and mine...
Some of your comments may get caught in this spam moderation trap, most will not. I will still be dealing with spam that get through. I wish it was simpler than this! When we move the blog we will supposedly have more control over this! |
