View Article  More Sad News for Flynn Fans Admin Comment
The article titled More Sad News for Flynn Fans was removed at the request of its Author, Xaviant.

I emailed Xaviant who tells me he was in the process of deleting his comments about Pat when he discovered the blog was down due to bandwidth problems. This is usually caused by the file size of pictures uploaded to the blog. It may be time to remind people that digital cameras produce large file sizes and to resize them to something smaller before uploading to the blog. In any case, Xaviant was speaking in the heat of the moment, and once he realized his remarks were a bit over the line he intended to delete them himself. We have comment guidelines to refer to, btw. His comments were over the top but who hasn't felt a rush of frustration like this? With all of the work he has done on his screenplay it is natural to have intense feelings about your project. However, there are folks here who know that many good projects have met roadblock after roadblock on the way to success. The difference between success or failure is often a matter of dogged determination and perseverance...

I have left the comments that followed this article in place to show blog readers what happened and what we are all about when we go off the rails a bit. Xaviant is a valued Author and  this really is a small blip on the radar screen, as far as I am concerned.

So we move on from here with smiles on our faces, and the wind in our hearts!

View Article  Back!

Hello everyone,

at last, my internet problems are solved, and here I am again. I missed you all a lot!

I spent part of my holidays in France and wrote an article about it. It's not very sensational, but I thought it would be nice to give others some hints when they want to travel, too. David kindly opened a new folder, "Blog author's travels", you can find it there. Hopefully, all of you who have done similar travels might contribute and write about their experiences. For example, if ever I go to the USA, what's the best way to get to this or that place related to Errol?

Also, something else "happened" during my holidays. I spoke to Waltraut Haas on the phone. Remember, Errol's co-star in "William Tell`? Five interesting minutes. If you want to know more, just drop me a line. I also got her autograph on a picture I drew of her and Errol, she kindly signed it and I attach it.

It's certainly great to be back!

Inga

Hi David;
I am back in town for a while I am gallivanting as it is summer and we have a wonderful one.  I see I have to catch up a lot but first things first.
Your link to Jack's Radio Show with Rory Flynn is not working so here is a replacement.

View Article  EF and The Heiress
Oh my, now I can't shut up.  But I've had a question bugging me for a while that one of my fellow Flynnians might be able to answer.  On TCM recently, Ben Mankiewicz related that William Wyler had approached EF to play Monty Clift's role in the Heiress.  I hadn't heard this before and was curious about the reference.  Does anybody know the source?
View Article  Dave Kehr on EF's Westerns

As promised, here's the link for Kehr on EF's westerns.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/26/movies/homevideo/26dvds.html.  Great photo of Alexis, EF and the fine Warner character player John Litel.

Strange that Warner Home Video still hasn't released Silver River to the domestic market.  I picked up my copy...in France! It's well worth seeing.  EF and Sheridan play off each other well, and the film has a great score by Max Steiner.

Best, Sean

View Article  Dave Kehr On The New Flynn Boxed Set

Greetings, fellow Flynnians!  What a privilege to be a part of David's great site.  For my maiden post, I'm attaching Dave Kehr's recent review of the Errol Flynn Adventures boxed set in the New York Times.  In my opinion, Kehr is one of the best writers on classic film today, and this review more than supports my point.  As long as I have been watching Our Man Flynn, I had never considered Raoul Walsh's role in bending the heroic Flynn persona, making it more quietly human and believable during the war, especially after the rape acquittal.

Kehr also wrote an excellent review of the Errol Flynn western set that came out a couple of years back.  I'll try and find that link for posting.

Best to all, Sean.

View Article  'New Book On Hollywood With Errol Flynn References'

Please be advised that a new book "Hollywood Babylon - It's Back" by Darwin Porter and Danforth Price has extensive new and original material on Errol Flynn.   This book has over 20 references to Errol Flynn including a chapter on the short, happy life of Sean Flynn and his tragic fate in Cambodia.

This book and even another by this pair of authors follows in the footsteps of Kenneth Anger who wrote those two landmark "Hollywood Babylon" books in the 1970's.

Some of this material on Flynn is true and some of it is probably false or greatly exagerated but I don't know where exactly.  The book is currently available from Amazon.com, where you can browse the Flynn passages.

Dark side or not this book does appear to be a fun read.

And by the way whatever happened to those remains discovered in Cambodia that were thought to be what's left of Sean Flynn?  Have they finished DNA testing?

I suspect those remains where not in the end Sean Flynn.

Best wishes

Ralph Schiller

View Article  Update on "Abdul The Damned"
I just received the movie DVD "Abdul The Damned" and it really looks like very much so that Errol was an "Extra" in this movie made in 1934/35.  I would say that I definitely recognized Errol three times as an Extra. Sadly the credits do not list the movie production company where one could inquire to the absolute fact.

It is a good movie and I liked it very much, but it had two more surprised in addition to Errol..
Patric Knowles is in the movie and not on the bottom of the credits - he is in the middle. He plays OMAR, Hilmi Pasha's Attache and he has one speaking line "But he can abdicate" very close at the end of the movie.
I wonder if Errol and Patric knew each other already in England???
The other surprise - the heroin played by Adrienne Ames, a very beautiful actress, was Bruce Cabot's wife from 1933 to 1937 and it says that it was a stormy marriage.
What a small world the acting community actually is or was it just in those days?
That's all for today!
