Errol's Rhodesian Ridgebacks

23 Aug

I accidentally discovered this site which tells us a bit about the offspring of the dogs Errol imported to the US:

I have this information too but kept it for the project we wanted to do on “Errol's Animals” remember? It is most interesting and you should combine it with Leeds Castle post you made as the dogs came from there. “The Royal Dogs of Errol” sounds good – hahaha or brbrbr. I could contribute some pictures too.

I know Errol was such an animal lover. That was neat that he brought them here to the U.S.

Yes, and it's so interesting to see where the puppies went!

    Hello …
My name is Denise Flaim, and I publish an international magazine for Rhodesian Ridgebacks called The Ridgeback Register. I am researching Errol Flynn's Ridgebacks — or, as they were more commonly known then, African Lion Dogs.
It is true that Flynn was the first to own and live with Ridgebacks in the U.S., and he was the first to whelp a Ridgeback litter here. (The five puppies opted to arrive in the middle of filming of “Adventures of Robin Hood.”) Flynn sold one of his puppies to a Michigan hunter and ensuing offspring were used in Canada for breeding, though those lines were overtaken by later, more typey-looking imports.
I would love to communicate with any Errol Flynn historians who might have chronologies, news reports or photographs of these dogs.
    My email is denise@ridgebackregister.com.
    Thanks so much!
