Was doing my daily perusal of Flynn on eBay and discovered this curious photo being offered:

My guess is that the working script originally had Robin carrying Friar Tuck across the river, but was changed on location (the proof being the existence of this photo) for some reason. Does anyone here have any thoughts on this?

Wow! A rare one indeed! It works much better with Errol doing the riding in every way I can think of… but who made the choice? Was it Flynn or the director? Flynn doesn't look happy carrying his burden, that's for sure! I wonder what the dialogue was or if this version survived in some archive somewhere? What a great find!

I must be losing it. I thought in the actual film Errol makes F.T. carry him and then Eugene dumps him overhead and I thought he then made Flynn carry him? Am I the only one who saw this on film? Did they cut it out later. My first glimpse of the film was in Richmond Odean Theater, when I was about 8 or 9 (1939?) so I should be forgiven if I am creating the image. But I could swear that's what happened. Wonder how we can find out if this scene was originally in the movie and then cut — for length perhaps. In order to make their duel last longer? Don't forget they changed directors after the first couple of weeks. Maybe this was in the original that England got? Sorry to be so vague. But I'm going strictly on gut memory. Sir Ivanhoe
